Huh?

The 97 GT and the 97 Cobra do not run the same times, given equal drivers and equal conditions.

What "specs" are you referring to? Certainly many Cobra's run 14s (mostly low 14s), but are quite capable of running 13s. Some GTs run 14s (mostly high 14s, occasionally mid), but some can't get out of the low 15s. The point is that there is a significant difference between the two.

For reference, my bone stock 98 Cobra went 13.6 @ 104 mph. I'm a decent driver.

Hello. Please tell me then - what motor did the 1998 S281 have? Please post your references.

I generally agree with you on 97 GT ETs - and won't argue the difference between a high 14 and a low 15.

And BTW...I don't consider myself an authority on Saleen's or other specialty Mustangs (not even close), but I have been around the Mustang scene just a bit myself for the last few years.

First off you gotta realize...Just Who Bob is.
Do some research on him and the discussion at hand and you will find the following.
1. Bob knows what he is talking about
2. The S281 is a Saleen and it has a 2V GT Motor in it.
3. Your not as Mustang Savy as you thought you were...lol

Also to revert back to an earlier question from another member...
COBRAs from the first year made to the last one to roll off an assembly line were ALL Manual transmissions. No Auto Cobras were ever made.
That is unless SS02 is gonna tell us otherwise

Yes, please continue to argue w/ Bob Cosby about Mustangs (especially when you're wrong) and imply he is a Chevy Fanboy. LOL, I haven't seen anyone put their own foot in their mouth this badly in ages.

Dont worry bout it man

We all make mistakes. It takes a big guy to admit when he is wrong and we respect that.

Re: 97 z28 vs 97 cobra?

the driver is 75% of the race. The car itself might be faster then yours, but the guy behind the wheel may not or vise versa. Only way to tell is to run him for fun. Always fun to run a camaro against a mustang....but from my personal experience, i did a run against a guy with a 97 5spd cobra with intake and exhaust, from a 40 roll to 120 and i managed to pull a bumper on him then shut down. They deff. got some nice low end torque

Re: 97 z28 vs 97 cobra?

a good running full exhaust/intake/other goodies LT1 M6 will put out 300rwhp give or take 5rwhp.

what would a 96-98 cobra do the same with those mods?

ps good thread

Re: 97 z28 vs 97 cobra?

96-97 would definatly be playing catch-up.

A 98 is the 4V motor that, from what Ive seen, respond pretty well to bolt ons. These might give you more than a run for your money.

Re: 97 z28 vs 97 cobra?

The Cobra depends heavily on the driver due to the lower torque at launch and the gearing. Driven correctly they can run very well. You have to keep the rpms up and slip the clutch. Best time for a 98 Cobra was Mike Smiths 13.08, 100% stock. In the hands of someone who hasn't had much time behind the wheel or a Cobra with clogged IMRC's and the times will be horrible.

Re: 97 z28 vs 97 cobra?

I could have sworn that the 98's got the 4V motor? Maybe im wrong. I just know that the 98's werent slow. My friends Dad had one and it was pretty quick once it builds some RPM's ... Down low if wasnt great though.
