97 RS vs 04 cummins
97 RS vs 04 cummins
so i just got my car back on the road and i was driving it last night. My friend has a 04 dodge 2500 with a cummins. He has a chip in it and a straight pipe. the chip has 4 stages but he has had it at 2 for a while. Im pretty much stock except for a z28 catback. His truck is pretty quick. Anyway we went out and ran them. We both spun off the line but i got a little jump. i pulled on him just a little bit and he was like right at my rear bumper. I shifted to 3rd and i wasnt pulling on him hardly any, but he wasnt pulling on me either. I wasnt use to the place that we raced so i ended up letting off at the wrong sign, but even after letting off i still crossed the real line before him by about a nose. my other friend was sitting at the line and has the finish on his cell, it was close. He was suppose to turn the truck up to 3 tonight and we were gonna run them again, but he had to put brakes on his truck so we didnt get a chance. i think itll be close but i think he will edge me out. we will see i guess. ill update on the results.
Re: 97 RS vs 04 cummins
I'm not up on my Dodge diesel specs but if it was a new Ford (6.0) it'd run 14.0s with just the programmer and exhaust. I'm sure GM's is the same.
His setup has multiple stages; he'll need more than the 60-80hp setting to make that big thing move. That's what the other two are for

Re: 97 RS vs 04 cummins
believe it or not they get really fast. My dad has an 06 Duramax with power programmer on stage 2 (160hp), 5 inch exhaust all the way and a stage 2 intake. He beats hemi's in it all the time so they can get pretty quick especially for weighing 9k. Id be cautious if i were you
Re: 97 RS vs 04 cummins
I get anialated by my friends 02 Cummins 4x4. Most of it is as a result of him 4 wheel drive launching at 20+ lbs of boost, but even on the highway when he's spraying it he keeps right along side me.

There are fullsize, fullweight, no nitrous/propane Duramax's in the 10's. Its not much to run low 12's in the 1/4 with one fullweight. There are a few in my lil town. I'm soon to be one of them

Re: 97 RS vs 04 cummins
I've seen a few disels in the area rape ricers and such ...
Since we're on the topic ...
My roommate has an '03 1500 Dodge 5.7L Hemi pick up ... he wants to race my '83 Z28.
He's all stock, I've got the following
Rebuilt 350; K&N air filter; 600cfm brock performer carb, brock performer intake (From here, the rest of the engine is stock spec all the way down), timing at 10 degrees BTDC, TF350 with a shift kit, running premium fuel ....
Good race? or would it be a raping, I've driven his truck, its pretty quick but then again so is my camaro.
