95Z vs. 94 5.0 vert. with some work
This is an update in a post I had quite awhile back concering a race between a friend and myself. Thought I'd let everyone know what happened.
He has a 94. 5.0 vert. 5spd with the following mods: Edelbrock upper and lower intake,E303 cam,BBK shorties,Flowmaster catback and off road H-pipe,70mm TB,and Pro 5.0 shifter. My mods are in the sig. First was about a month ago. We did a short run when we were following each other to a friends. I had a bad fuel pump at this time. Went from a roll at about 50mph. He was in 2nd and my stupid tranny wouldn't downshift into 1st when I WOT'd . Anyway he walked right away from me, I started to catch hold when his rear was just a little in front of my nose. The pull stopped and I started to reel. Got back on top of him at about 110mph or so. That was the only chance we had. The very following weekend my pump died and was replaced with a new Walbro 255lph. This of course got us talking so we went out to run soon after the install. It was later at night and getting to be the cold season so traction was a concern. We both left from a dig, me stalled up to about 2200 and him just above idle. We both spun like a raped ape(each with street tires) and had serious traction problems for about the first 30ft. Neither gained an inch lol. Once we finally hooked my A4 had already shifted to 2nd and was running. He had to shift into 2nd once he finally got traction just after I did. By that time there was no turning back. I continued to run, and run, and run. Stopped just over 100mph with me about 3 cars ahead and the gap was getting bigger in a hurry. We ran a few more times with both better and worse traction with the same results each time. One time he had a great jump on me but had to feather a little cause he lost traction just out of the hole. That was one of my better launches so he was gone before he hit 2nd. He's now put in an order for his heads and a bigger MAF, I think he's getting bigger injectors too. That's his winter project. We both agreed his heads are a serious bottlneck. Sorry for him though my winter is a forged 355 with Lloyd Elliott LE2 H/C. Oh this run was still without the LT's mentioned in the sig. Which will go on when the motor is pulled. Can't wait til spring. Gonna be some serious a$$ woopin. Made me feel better since I haven't had hardly a single chance at a race in months. Although word gets back to me that people race my car left and right and they know it's me because the describe both me and my car. Funny...I never remember it. Must be an evil twin is taking my car at night....
