95 TA trailing a 03-04 Cobra

I was behind him and gave him a rev.(White convert with some exhaust work very loud) The traffic was alittle thick so I couldn't get beside him. The cars cleared in front and I heard him downshift into what would be 3rd (going about 65) then he hit it. He got a jump on me seeing how he floored first. I was still close enough to see him slam it in 4th. He pulled away about 5 cars when we let off. It really didn't look like he pulled away very bad b/c of the space that was between us already. I did end up getting beside him but he turned at the light. I wanted to race from a stop anyway b/c thats the only chance I would have to make it close. It looked to be the same guy I raced 2 weeks ago but he was driving a SC harley truck and I won that. Not really fun racing a car when you know your going to get spanked.

Sorry, but with those mods, you were in no way running anywhere near an 03-04 Cobra. Those cars have I'll spank you written all over them. mod a whole lot more and then you'll see. Maybe we GM fans will luck out with a nice LS2 car in the future!

It would be nice wouldnt it, with an optional watered down LS7, for the Vette's sake.

Nice run, but you always have a chance of winning, hell at the very least he could miss a gear or have a poor launch. Dont give up.

Did you even read what I wrote? I never said anything about running near. I know all about what they can do. I don't want my car to be as fast either, I perfer just to buy one. For now I'll try to out drive them, thats even hard to do considering they got about 10 mph on me in the 1/4.

out of curiousity, dont most stock 03-04 cobras run mid 12's? or am i off the mark? i guess what im getting at, is i would imagine a bad reaction time off the light to a big equalizer to a 13.x car to a 12.x cobra. just curious never got to race a cobra yet.

No you didn't say anything outright about being close, it's just the way I read it. Calm down.
About the "I'll just buy one" comment, just mod yours. That's all I was saying.
We will more than likely never see an LS7 in another affordable car, just like the LS6. Maybe they'll come out with a GTO Judge with the LS7.

pfft. LS2. So far they're not very impressive. Better off going the heads/cam route on a car you already own rather than buying another fbody in the future, keep insurance down and save on car payments.

Re: 95 TA trailing a 03-04 Cobra

While in theory obviously this race is a sure thing for the cobra in the real world and at the track even have seen a slower car many many many times beat a faster one.
Firstly its not easy to drive manual cars. Not everyone is race savy either and lots of people will way shortshift or stay in the completely wrong gear and lose big time. You can misshift ,short shift or band the limiter. All seriously slow a car down enough to lose in the quarter mile.I speak from experience owning a 5 speed talon turbo and and 99 trans am m6.And have beaten tons of faster cars with my 80 auto 400 and 96 z28 vert.

Other thing is traction. Not easy to hook up a newer cobra on street tires. You might get him off the line also if he just blows them off.

But yea to have a chance on a stock one you pretty much need the full meal deal ,headers, cam, heads and against modded ones serious mods yourself of course like turbos, nitrous ,supers. But the cobra is much better suited to running higher boost levels having forged pistons and much better rear end than our f bodies.Ford did some things right I am afraid.
I figure my vert should be able to do ok against some of the lighter modded ones this year.
Mods I have already and waiting to be installed are 3.42 a4,2800 vig,CC 305,1.6 rockers ,all the little stuff and a Zex 125 wet shot. And if can afford it also plan on some nice heads and cam.But of course all that won't do any good without some nittos on there full time.

i have personally seen 3 03 04 cobras go 12.2 at the strip. One left the track on a flatbed after destroying the drive shaft....( kinda comical )

Not very impressive compared to what, your highly modified car?

Better off going the heads/cam route on a car you already own rather than buying another fbody in the future, keep insurance down and save on car payments.
Sometimes it's not so clear cut. I'm not saying it would be the same for you, but in my case, insurance on the '98 Vette was *significantly* less expensive than the '95 Z28 I used to have, and insurance on the '02 Z06 is about the same. The rest of the equation is simply a matter of how badly you want something vs the cost of monthly payments. As an example, how many guys traded in or sold their LT1 cars to get an LS1 car? Trading in to get an LS7 based Fbody would be no different.

ran one last night at the track!
r/t.....152.......059
60'.....2.1........2.3
1/8th..8.6.......8.9
mph...83.1......89.2
1/4....13.3......13.2
mph...103.5.....115.2
i took him outta the hole and stayed in front a lil more then the 1/8th, then he proceeded to put 3 or more cars on me in the big end. he came up FAST. it was a fun run, even though i got spanked. i would not dare run one and think i had any type of chance on the highway!

WOW..he ran a 13.3 and trapped a 115? DAMN that thing was pushing some ponies!!!!That car had something done to it as stockers dont trap 115..Stock Cobra's run around a 12.8-13.1@109-113 on average providing they have a good driver they should all trap at least 110. But I have never heard of one running a 12.2 stock, ever. Not to say its impossible because most of them trap high enough to run that kind of a time providing they get really good sixties.
I have beat a few of them" stock" but I have also been waxed bye one with About 1200 bucks in bolt ons He was running 11.7's all day.

400+hp@28MPG..im impressed. A bolt on LS2 could easily be a monster. Just think how much power a Nicely ground cam would add to an LS2?
Heads+cam is a cheaper route for pricing reasons. But If I could have an LS2or heads and cam, I'd pick the LS2 and Cam it.

I bet a heads, cam LS1 will put out more power than a cam LS2. We will see in a few months.
