i hope you mean sti and not just a plain wrx?

Dont be stupid.

Take him from a SLOW roll.

Go from no more than a 10-15 mph roll. Even with 2.73's you will have the TQ to take off pretty good. He will be dicked. He cant tack it up and dump the clutch like he could from a stop, and he cant rely on already making psi like he would on a higher roll.

Use your car knowledge to your advantage. I raced a WRX through 1st gear one time like that. Just a quick 10-50 run, and it wasnt even funny how bad it made a car ( That is close to as quick as mine ) look since he wasnt boosting when it started, and by the time he was, I already had some distance on it.

Slow Roll, slow enough he wont boost, and fast enough you will get traction.

<An AWD car that traps 110 will run basically even with a 2wd car that traps 110 from a roll.>

Of course it will, but the awd car will need more hp than the 2wd car to get to 110. An AWD car usually has 5-7% more drivetrain loss than a 2wd, that's where the disadvantage lies.

A well-ratio'ed 5spd means less shifting. The car makes enough power that it can pull any normal gears. Everybody who's raced knows shifts at the beginning take much more off your ET than shifts at higher speeds.

The gearbox in a Subaru STi is so short they often shift out of 1st before passing the timing lights!

AWD may not be ideal from a roll but it's not the handicap people make it out to be either. An AWD car that traps 110 will run basically even with a 2wd car that traps 110 from a roll.

Yes he can! It's quite easy to do that from a 1st gear roll and it's all the more impressive for your passengers. You can't do that in 2nd, but you can brake-boost so either way you don't have to get caught with your pants down in a turbo car.

take him from a slow roll if not from a dig. bottom line is its gonna be close so you GOTTA out drive him. Its pretty much a drivers race let us know what happens

Well, I guess you do have a point. But if I had one, I probably wouldnt. Not worth the wear n tear. Thats why I kinda like races from a roll. Everyone has traction, so the excuses arent as bad. And its not as hard on the drivetrain lol. I mean, dont get me wrong, I like launching the car, but I wont pass up a roll race just because its from a roll.
