68 vette

ok heres the story. this spring the vettes comin out, its my step dads and hes gonna let me have fun with it this summer. its got a 4 speed manual, 3:73 posi and a 350 with around 350 hp. i drove it last summer around my hs parkin lot and its pretty damn fast i think. i went for a ride in his friends 03 mach 1 after a ride in the vette and the stang didnt glue u to the seat like the corvette. so to the point. what should i look out for kuz i know once i roll into the parkin lot im gonna have all kinds of ppl wantin to race me. the only ones i think could be a threat are one kid has a nissan 300zx and some other kid has one of those wrx's but its not an sti. i dont really know anything about those imports but everyones always talkin bout how fast they are so im just wonderin. do you think either of those would be a "threat" lol

I don't really know how well the old 'Vettes hook up with their IRS .

I'd be weary of newer "fast" cars ..... the lack of "feel" to them (ie: the Mach 1) might surprise you . And the HP ratings changed over the years, so if that's a factory rated 350 HP, I don't think it'll measure up to "today's" ~350 HP (SAE standards) .

I'm pretty sure the 375 HP LT1 engine debuted in the 1970 Corvette (unless it was in '69? ) and while they were a very good motor, I can tell you that they're not as "crazy" as you might expect (my Dad's '73 Camaro had a 355 built much like an original LT1 when we first put it on the road, and with a 4-speed & 3.42's, we were running ~13.6's at best with it ). My point to the LT1 reference, is that the '68 has a 350/350, that I don't think is even as "radical" as the 375 HP LT1 350.

Race anyone you want ... I think that's half the fun, is not knowing WHAT to expect in a race ... but don't be disappointed if the 'Vette gets a little beat up, know what I'm saying?

And again, some of it might be due to the IRS they have, and your ability (or lack thereof) to launch it properly .

My sisters 04 Mach 1 auto doesn't feel as fast as my car, and I know its not, but it is faster than it feels. It just doesn't have the torque down low like my LT1 does, but up top those 32v motors really wake up, especially with manuals.

As for racing people. Its a classic vette. I wouldn't risk wreaking it just to prove a point, especially since its not yours.

Beside, you'll get more women just cruising around and being the bigger man. Trust me.

But if you feel that you have to prove something to someone, keep it on the track.

There's no real telling how fast this car is, an theres only one way to find out. Go to the track.

I agree
My Dad had a 66 convt with an L88 427 in it. ( I know its not original, it was taken from his friends Vette when he was Younger)
I never DREAMED of hitting that thing
It was worth more then my life, and my Dad told me that several times...
I would say be the cool kid that doesn't race, respect the car and take a a GIRL for a ride for crying out loud. That would have been my focus.
