3rd gen takes down 94 GT and 04 WRX
3rd gen takes down 94 GT and 04 WRX
So it was a nice saturday night in Fredericksburg, and me and my buddies are all sittin around, smokin, havin a good time, and I suggest to my friend allyn (RiceKiller87) that he race this kid we knows mustang. I had been plannin on racing this kid myself, however, transmission problems had put that to rest for the time being. So we call this kid up, set up to meet at taco bell later on that night and we show up. For information on the IROC, look up RiceKiller87 for all the info needed on the car. I see he hasn't posted anything yet, so I'm taking the initiative upon myself to do it
The mustang is a 94 GT, w/ 1 chamber flows, some kind of awesome cool CAI, under-drive pullies, 3.73 posi, off-road X-pipe (bassani), bbk shorty headers, 255s (duno what kind), pro 5.0 short throw, and a $2k red paint job that had to net him nearly 10 ponies at the rear. The WRX is an 04, bone stock, both cars are 5 speeds. The IROC is a 700-R4.
We meet up at taco bell, and decide to go a little ways out of town to a stoplight turning left that leads a good 1/4 mile before you have to start braking. We follow down there, and this other kid we know Mike (04 WRX) is driving like an idiot, trying to get some kind of rise out of the 357ci beast that lies underneath the long hood of the IROC. Skipping to the good part, I am riding shotgun in the IROC and Kevo has his g/f riding shotgun in self-proclaimed monster of a mustang
We decide to honk 3 times, not sure what mph, but we're doing around 3500-4k in 1st gear. They both nail it, Kevo shifts to 2nd, we get to the top of 1st and have just about pulled 1/2 car, IROC breaks a little lose going into 2nd, pull some more into 2nd, we hit 3rd, I look back, and his headlights are a waaaaaaaays back. We both knew something went wrong (Kevo is infamous for missing 3rd gear in the car
), but knew what the end result would be anyways from pulling so hard to begin with.
We end up at the same spot about 20-30 minutes later racing the WRX, same 3 honk, only we start at a little under 3k RPMs. Easing into it, tire spin begins to develop with a little play of the gas pedal, we have traction, we're back in business, and into 2nd. We start pulling away from the WRX in 2nd a good car-car and a half, go into 3rd, pull some more and then we decide to shut it down, with us about 2 cars, maybe a little more. Mike said his speedo read around 110 when we shut it down. Kevin says he wants another shot at the IROC, and Allyn is eager to dish out another serving, so we begin to make our 3rd trip back.
We turn left, line up even, 4k in 1st gear, 3 honks, we get going, pull an immediate 1/2-3/4 of a car breaking all kinds of traction laws into 2nd, and as soon as we hit 3rd I count more than 2 cars, at the top of 3rd, I counted nearly 4 cars. I wish I could give you guys a mph reading but the speedo is broke, so I'm not too sure how fast we were going. Judging the RPMs and gears from when we raced the WRX, I'd have to be saying we were definately doing well over 110, maybe on the upwards of 120-130mph, but again, I haven't a clue. It was a nice night of racing and now the teeny-bopper world of fredericksburg now knows to think twice before calling the IROC a "slow turd gen"

hahaa, dayum right it was a fun night that night.
everything he said is true. i would have raced these guys from a stop, but it would be like commiting suicide for the fact that 3.73's and no posi makes my car only dream about traction in the first 2 gears.

Many cars on a new WRX from a 3rd gen? I'm calling
Nice way to let the locals know that 3rd gens can be much faster than they think. Very good story telling too... I almost felt like I was watching the races

It was a very exciting night, first time the IROC had been street racing in a while. I'm just glad everyone decided to race our way, outside of town with little to no traffic, and not in the middle of town right in front of taco bell
As far as respect for third gens go, when we got back to taco bell and everyone found out the results, let's just say nobody else was very eager to jump on running the roc again.
I told the boy with the mustang when we got back "yea, she runs good... destroy my car alrite". I'm not very eager to race Allyn myself, but we will just for ***** and giggles... won't be pretty, I'll tell you that

Re: 3rd gen takes down 94 GT and 04 WRX
its a 94 gt with stock heads, stock cam, stock intake, do you expect it to make any horsepower? the only thing it has going for it is torque and even in a 3300 pound car what he has isnt much, even on a good 60' i doubt that car could get any better than a 13.9
Re: 3rd gen takes down 94 GT and 04 WRX
This post has a very in depth meaning to it. This kid Kevin with the mustang has probably twice as much money, maybe 3 times the amount in cosmetics on that car, than he has into performance. It had probably 3 or 4 layers of paint from macco on it before he got it sanded/primed/painted half-a** for $2k, and even then it still has a few runs in it. He's got a 4th gen style "SS" hood w/ that gay cowl (must be dreamin of a carb underneath), eibach sportline springs, chrome 17" cobra R's, tinted windows, sticker galore on his backglass. His exhaust system says it all. .... point in fact, the kid is a domestic ricer in a mustang, and it was nice to finally shut him up about a chevrolet for once.
