300C vs 6.0 GTO

Well not exactly a race...

Came across a sweet black GTO (6.0 LS2) and he was weaving in and out. He came up to my butt and wanted to pass, I pulled over to lane #2 and let him. As he accelerated, I simply rolled up with him to about 75.

He gets the hint and we both slow to about 60. Traffic is a good distance off in the horizon. I notice his downshift (3rd? 4th?) and his nose pops. I simply mash the thottle of the Al Capone Special.

The 300C downshifts and launches immediately into its sweet spot and I take a two-three car lead within a second, but the gain stops. We both break the century, add another 10, another 10 and traffic is approaching promptly. I check the mirror to see where he is. He's still back there and not gaining an inch.

I pull off the throttle, apply brakes and we call it a tie.

I actually anticipated the GTO to pull on me, but it didn't. The 300C only has 340 and the LS2 has 400. WTF!! I assume had it been from a git-go, or had dragged out to 130+, things probably would've been different.

I'm prettty impressed with my little Mafia Friend.

On paper it shouldn't have been a race... The GTO has 60 more horses, 10 more Ft-Lbs, and weights 300 + less... Then again, paper doesn't always tell the story.

My guess would be that he picked 4th when he should have picked 3rd. I don't know what the rear end gear ratio and trans ratios are on the GTO, but I'm going to assume that it's relatively close to an LS1 F-body. If he picked 4th from 60, I think you'd see the results you saw, although he should have started pulling on you around 100mph.

All GTOs came with a 3.46 rear, IIRC...

I'm going to guess that it's 3.42, not 3.46. Not that it would make a significant difference...

I know for a fact that all 2004's had 3.46s (M6 & A4). I haven't heard anything about GM changing this for 2005 and 2006. I don't see why it wouldn't have been carried over.

3.46 IS the correct gearing for the goat.
It is completely different than the F body.

A goat, ESPECIALLY a 6.0, will rape a 300c. That guy couldn't drive, or you have your story mixed up
