Question 2002 mustang gt

My car is getting fixed and I was wondering if you guys think I can take my friends 2002 gt from a stop. He has an auto with flows on it. Do you think it would be easier to take him from a roll or a stop?

Talking

Assuming your car's been maintained well you should have no problem. As Antz said Ford's auto trannys don't come close performance wise to its manual equipped cars. GM's autos are much closer to their manual equivalents.
Go get 'em!

Im gonna give a slight different opinion than the last few replies.
Since you as well have an Auto it will be closer than you think.
You will probably get him , but I definately wouldnt want to bet my paycheck on it.

If you had a M6 then I would bet on you.
It will all come down to the better driver, traction and whos tranny soaks up more hp

auto gt's are a high 14 sec. car, do him from a roll u should beat him bad. And A4 vs. M6 f bodies, they are pretty much the same a beat 6 speed LT1's when i was stock from rolls

go to the Mustang Board and theyll tell you they run low 14's high 13's and LT1's runmid 14's. Bottom line is, The mustang generally traps around 98-99MPH while the F-Body usually traps 99-101 stock. What the driver runs (E.T) doesnt necassarily mean thats all the car is capable of,cmon guys wake up.

Very true, you will get vastly different ET's on different car boards.

Well lets just say this, in kansas city at KCIR. I have never seen a newer stock GT even get close to a 14.0-14.2 they run mid to high 14's all day long. And the LT1's out there do low 14's all day long.

Yea you should win.

The autos are slower in the GTs.

Now my father which has 25+ years of driving and drag racing experience was able to coax his 2000 M5 GT with a k&n air filter to run 13.7x at about 101mph. I was only able to hit low 14s in his car.

I always joked with him racing my car, or his old car that now has a different motor in it.

That may very well be true , but down here in the South East we have them run anywhere from 13.70-14.20 @ around 99 mph on average. Now thats mainly 5 speeds doing this not the autos.

I owned a 01 5 speed GT a few years ago and made 2 passes at Darlington SC with only 800 miles on the odometer Casper (that was the cars name) ran a first pass of 13.96 @ 100 mph and even hit the rev limmiter on third gear.

Next pass I managed to not slam the rev limmiter and made another amazing 13.93 @ 99 mph pass.

The above is just to give people some insight and to let some uninformed people out there know that they are a force to be recognized. I took down a few LT1s while stock and lost a few as well. It really comes down to the driver in these things.

With a few small tweaks to the tranny, they can be made to run believe it. All that 4R70W needs is the accumulator springs changed and presto.

I think it will be a drivers' race but that's my opinion.

Wouldn't I have a better chance from a stop since the gt's run 0-60 slower then my car yet get a better et. I don't know if that it is how it is in the real life but that is what car-stats.com and all those numbers say. I personally want to knock this guy around because he can't even tell you how big his engine is or how much hp it has. He just got lucky and got a nice fast car.
