2002 Camaro Z28 vs E55 AMG
Actually the Cobra had a number of mods to it including a pulley, the E55 had BFG drag radials. They were evenly matched but the Cobra had a serious traction problem.
The people that buy these cars from us don't care how fast the car runs in the 1/4 mile, or how many lateral Gs it can pull. If they want to go faster they don't mod it, they trade it in for a faster model or a Porsche/Ferrari/Viper etc. Besides, if you are making over 500,000$ a year an 80K$ car is nothing.
To buy a Mercedes SLR AMG (built by the guys that made the McClaren F1) or the Porsche Carrera GT you need to put down a 50,000$ non-refundable deposit to get on the waiting list. One of our customers payed 100,000$ for one of each of these cars from my dealership. He still has to pay 450,000$ for each of these cars when they finally come in. He also recently bought from us the new S600TT, S55 AMG, CLK55 AMG, SL55 AMG, E55 AMG, G500, Porsche 911TT and 911 GT3.
For the price of any one of these cars I could have one mean Camaro and enough change left over to buy a house. I'm waiting to win the lottery or until a car falls on me at work so I can sue (hopefully it won't hurt too bad)

Yeah I understand if you're a millionaire a car costing 80k is nothing. But even still, I don't really see a huge benefit for buying an $80k car for no other reason than image. If I had that much money, my daily driver or one of them would probably be a 3/4 ton Chevy with the 8.1 or a Dodge V10, and that would be about all I would spend upfront for a vehicle. Sure I'd have my share of muscle cars, but you wouldn't find me driving the latest flagship car from BMW or Benz. I would rather put that $ toward an even better house or buy an additional vacation home or just save it. And yes, this is coming from a 20 year old car nut in college believe it or not.
