?? 2001 Mustang GT vs. 1996 Formula
Re: ?? 2001 Mustang GT vs. 1996 Formula
Yea powershifting it is just oging to break **** and bounce your car off the rev limiter if you dont do it fast enough.
Dont powershift it. Just practice shifting a little faster. It's quicker if you already have some preussure on the shifter **** in the direction you are shifting it. Then when you push the clutch in it goes into the next gear faster.
Practice launching the thing. His DR's are going to make it hard to nail him off the line ...

Re: ?? 2001 Mustang GT vs. 1996 Formula
Would I be able to shift faster if I had an aftermarket shifter like a pro 5.0 or short stick? Right now its just the stock shifter, but in al honesty it isnt that bad.
Re: ?? 2001 Mustang GT vs. 1996 Formula
a good shifter would make all the difference...if nothing else the short stick.
MUCH less slope.
i say go invest in a $25 shift stick off ebay...or a $50 lou's short stick, and then get a $50 proform shift light so that you get good shifts just before the rev limiter kicks in.
if you're shifting slower than a power shift...set it for about 5700. you'll be much more consistent. it's easy to forget, ignore or just plain zone out when you're racing...specially if you're new to it.

Now I know there is alot of resentment towards Fords on this site but the 4.6 vs the lt1 is not so much a who has more power as it is a who is the better driver. They are a few hundred pounds lighter than us. So the 265 vs the 285 is mostly negated, even more so with his better ability to get the power to the ground with those tires. With the mods he has he will most likely beat you at your current state. You would need to at least get some sticky tires to take advantage of your 325ftlbs of tq.
Re: ?? 2001 Mustang GT vs. 1996 Formula
But really it is a 265 HP car vs a 300-310HP car.
He has a CAI, Cat Back, and Cut out. And it is a M6. Most M6 cars will dyno at least 250RWHP, some even 260RWHP stock.
So 250 + at least another 15 from the CAI, catback, and cut out, is around 265 RWHP. 265/.87= 305HP Im not trying to be a ricer, but you can break it down. 99% of people gain around 10 RWHP with CAI, 5 RWHP with Catback. I would say he would get a little from the cutout ... at least something. But even if he didnt, he is still looking at at least a 300HP car versus a 265 HP car.
The mustang is rated at 260 HP. These commonly will dyno at around 230RWHP stock. With common bolt ons, such as full exhaust and such, it is pushing around 260RWHP ?
No doubt the car is at a power to weight advantage, but look at the RPM range of both motors. The LT1 makes its peak torque WAY lower. If he pulls him off the line, he got the race. This one is all going to be about how well you can launch it.

Re: ?? 2001 Mustang GT vs. 1996 Formula
I dont care about my clutch anymore since I have to drop the trans sometime soon in order to get it fixed, and while im in there I will replace the clutch/pp. So I could slip the crap out of it to get a good launch.,
