02 z28 vs 02 transam
02 z28 vs 02 transam
Saturday some friends and I were hanging out. When a guy with a trans am comes up and want to race my friends 03 Evo. (the evo is badass) He turns the race down. Well the trans am keeps pursisting. So finally we make a deal if he can beat my 02 z28 the Evo will race him. So me and the transam go over what mods we have. He has 6 speed with the SLP package and says that is all he has. I have a 6 speed borla catback exhaust airbox mod and Tb bypass. Well we go out to 220 and we go from a 40 roll i jump out in front by half a car untill 65 then he passes me gains a car and we shut off at 125. Is this how it should have turned out. I believe he had something else done. Maybe gears? He was changeing gears way more frequently then me. He was in 5th by the time i was coming out of 3rd. I shift right at the redline. I was just curious is this how it should have turned out. I also had the windows down and and my cousin who weighs 170.

SOunds like a gear ratio difference, if he was shifting significantly different from you. Also, did you see the WS6 badge on the rear? T/A and WS6's have a better flowing intake due to their arrangement. I think T/As beat Z28s on average, particularly at the upper speeds (80+) due to the air flow of the intake.
My 1996 SS (when original) would be neck and neck with stock Z28s until about 60, then I would just walk away. I believe it was due to the ram-air, which has limited effect at slow speeds.
