'02 Z06 vs '03 Cobra freeway run

This was already posted on a Ford SVT forum, but I thought I'd post here as well, with slight modifications for formatting, etc...

After work today a co-worker, Rob, a member of svtperformance (maddrabitt) and I ran twice from a 65 mph or so roll. Traffic was pretty light on the freeway, probably because of the impending holiday. Anyway, we're cruising along side each other, letting traffic ahead of us pull away a bit. We agree to go on the 3rd honk, with Rob doing the honking.

On the first run the Cobra gets a quick jump of a car or so, staying pretty much in that spot through 3rd, and then he starts pulling away pretty hard in 4th. Traffic is coming up so we both back out hit the brakes, and I slowly cruise up next to his car. I shout/motion that I want to go one more time, so again we let traffic pull away so we get clear runs.

On the second go around he gives me the jump, and I take it, since I clearly lost the first race. I jump out a car or so, with him just creeping up in 3rd, but when in 4th he's quickly pulling pretty hard yet again. Sweet races, and I had a grin from ear to ear as I pull up for the last time and yell over "You've got a FAST CAR!!" - the Cobra driver points at his ear, so I don't think he heard what I said, but I'm sure he understood the meaning.

My sole mod is commonly called the zip-tie mod. Basically the stock airbox with the upper cover removed, and the air filter zip-tied to the airbox bottom. Otherwise my car is bone stock, right down to the factory tuning. Rob's (maddrabitt) modifications, according to his sig at the other forum, are:

#1823 / 450 rwhp/462 rwtq SAE : 2.8 / Bassani catback and X pipe / Accufab throttle body / Centerforce Dual Friction / Steeda CAI / Pro 5.0 Shifter / GordsFord Heat Exchanger / 91 octane CA racing gas / Tune by Shawn Ellis @ SoCal Tuning & Performance

Not bad for a nearly stock Z06. Now it's time for more mods

Oh, Merry Christmas

Great runs considering how he has about 80 rwhp more than stock! Why not fix your sig about the K&N?

Re: '02 Z06 vs '03 Cobra freeway run

I have a set of 1-3/4" long tube stainless headers w/high flow cats sitting in a spare bedroom, with N2O and a tune on the "to-do" list, but the nitrous and tune won't be done until after the headers are installed. With too much work and too little spare time for the time being, I won't be able to install the headers until the Spring, then the N20 and tune will go in

If Mustang owners, and anyone else who can put up a good fight with a 'Stang, thinks that a Z06 got owned by a stock Mustang... well, that's O.K. with me -- they'll learn otherwise if they actually try it
