02 gt 5-speed vs 95 Z 6-speed

i was coming out of the gas station by my work (wal-mart tire lube express) and a mustang goes by and revs at me. i turned off heading for home and he was going straight across the highway while i was going left. a second after i turn i heard him coming up behind me.(i MAY have revved at him as i went by) it was a nice mid 50's day and i had my window down. i was already in 5th gear by 50 mph when the passenger yells "3...2...1.." and the mustang takes off, i TRY to get to 3rd but it takes a second and i get going about 1 car behind him. it stays that way til we let off. then he pulls off the road, im thinking to talk, but no. he waited for the traffic behind us to clear and get ahead of us. we stop side by side on the highway and the passenger yells again "3...2...1..GO" i get a ****ty launch and he get about a car on me, but into second i get some sideways action and start to pull him hard. i bark 3rd at his door and then bark 4th about 1 car ahead. i shut down a little into 5th about 110. i was about 2 cars ahead. i have worked on the car before at work and he has a MAC intake, O/R H-pipe, and magnaflow catback with 245-50-16 tires. i had the mods in my sig. he said that the spot we raced from to where there was a speed limit sign (extremely close to where i shut down) was a 1/4 mile. but i had been in 5th since before the sign. anyone else get into or close to 5th in the 1/4 mile? anyways that was my race. one of many.

You should be able to do about 130 mph in 4th gear at 5700 rpm with stock gearing.

4.10's maybe? I'm not sure how fast you can go in 4th with them though...

Sounds like you may have some gears you didn't know about.

you sound like a weenie only shifting at 5000, the stock shortblock can take so much more than that. BTW with 3.73's in fourth 5500 rpm is about 110 and 6000 is about 120 with 245/50/16 tires.

C'mon man, that thing will happily rev to 6000 with no problems. I spin mine that high all the time and it has damn near twice the miles as yours.

I can see this both ways. Why stress the car when you are going to win anyway? But it sure is fun to rev that thing and "feel" the power. The LT1 is a strong motor, it can take a lot of abuse before blowing up. You could probably rev the thing to redline regularly for 200,000+ miles.

Good run!

My buddy has a 02 GT 5spd that runs pretty damn good for just a CAI and H Pipe! Ive heard his stock heads have been touched up a bit but I dont see why they would be. I know before I put the cam in my car and had just basic bolt ons, I could put 2 cars on him from a 50mph roll-90mph! I know they are much faster than the older 4.6 models that only had about 230hp or so, these I believe have 260hp stock. Still not alot consider the ol' LT1 has 275-285 but some of these ponies do run ok.

A stock LT-1 won't make it to 6000 RPMs. Fuel cutoff isn't set that high in the stock chip programming. Ask me how I know.

Good kill.

The only gear worth really winding it out to the limit is 3rd, in my expereince. Take it out just shy of the fuel cutoff before pulling 4th for best ET and MPH.

74k miles isnt that much. I have almost 140k miles and shift right before 6k. Get headers and it wont even be close. I raced my friends 01 GT from a 50 roll and had him by 5-6 cars by 100.
