Writeup on LS1 brake upgrade

Just like it says, anyone have a write up on this. It doesn't look too hard, just maybe a little time consuming. Thanks!

Todd.

It's really not that hard at all. It just takes some time. I just did it this spring.

Re: Writeup on LS1 brake upgrade

What i did was i took the cotter pins out. I then unhooked the tie rod end. Then loosened the nuts and busted the top and bottom ball joints loose. Then i undid the brake line and stuffed a small small rag into it to keep it from dripping so much. I then took the bolts off and removed the whole LT1 assembly in one piece, with the spindle, rotor, and calipers all still on it. Why waste your time pulling it all apart one piece at a time. I then stuck the LS1 setup back in and put the nuts on the top and bottom ball joints. I then hooked up the brake line and tightened it up. I wanted to minimize the loss of brake fluid as it was just more air i would have to bleed out. I did this whole swap in 4 hrs including a run to the parts house for rubber boots to cover the ones on my ball joints that got ripped by the pickle fork(aka ball joint separater). I wouldn't say this mod should take all damn day. Also make sure you have a 12mm flare nut tubing wrench if not you will ruin the fittings on the brake lines.

Re: Writeup on LS1 brake upgrade

Good stuff guys. Thanks! One other question. I was wanting to get some teflon brake lines from thunder racing. If I get the LS1 kit will the lines work on the rear LT1 calipers? I was looking on another thread that someone said that it will work. I emailed thunder just to make sure and they said:
I'm not sure that they would work since the calipers are oriented
differently on the LT1 rear end.

Thanks,
Shane
So, I guess I'm just making sure. I don't want to spend $120 on brake lines to only get one set. Thanks again!

Todd

Yes, the LS1 lines will work fine on your car. Just get the LS1 stainless lines.

Re: Writeup on LS1 brake upgrade

do the LT1 brake lines stretch far enough for the ls1 calipers? i turned mine and there's only a slight tugging on the pass. side (if that) and still some slack in the brake line when i turn the wheel all the way to the left - is that ok? LS1 and LT1 lines are the EXACT same length..... i measured them both equally and theyre both the same damn size

peace
