Wobble in steering wheel...

I just drove my car for the first time since right after Christmas. This wobbly feeling has been there for quite a while but I guess since I haven't driven it much now it really gets on my nerves. Really noticable at lower speeds. Seems like the steering wheel is just bouncing from right to left with an inch or so either way. Could this be a tie rod? Any other idea's or suggestions? Thanks!

could be a tie rod, a broken belt in a tire, rack mounts.....could be alot of thing.

I would check the tires first

I've been through two other sets of tires and still the "wobble". Just seems worse now even with new ones. What's a good method of checking the tie rods? Slack (horizontal)?

jack up one side so the wheel is off the ground, look at it with a flashlight and have someone shake the wheel slow at 9 and 3 o'clock...see if it has any play. Push it up and down with your hand.

Shake it 12 and 6 check ball joints and bearings for play. With the wheel off the ground pry up under the tire and look at the ball joint see if it has play.

With wt. on the tires, have someone turn the wheel left and right.....see if the rack mounts have any play. Thats a good start of things for you to check. You will need a helper
