Re: who runs 28'' tall slicks??
I ran Hoosier 28x11.5-15 QTP's on 15x10 7.5" backspace Weld Pro-Stars. The wheel wells had already been hammered for 315's on 17x11's, so there was no problem inside the wheel well. At about 120-125MPH trap speeds, the tire grew enough to start hitting the metal front edge of the wheel opening, so I moved the axle back about 1/4" with adjustable LCA's - problem solved.
I did have a problem when I went to M/T 28x10.5-15W ET Drags. Although M/T quotes them as 28.1" diameter (compared to the QTP's at 28.0"), they wouldn't even fit in the wheel opening until I cut the leading edge of the rubber bumper cover off, and hammered in the metal that backs up the bumper cover. By the sime I got done, including running the car at 130MPH on the chassis dyno to check for tire growth, I have about 1.5" off the bumper cover.
The picture show it with only about 3/4" off the bumper cover:
