Where are the ABS sensors located?
Re: Where are the ABS sensors located?
Contact cleaner. What year is your car? http://shbox.com/1/abs_wiring.jpg Mine only has one connector on top of the pumpkin, but doesn't have ASR.
Re: Where are the ABS sensors located?
ABS only has a sensor in each front wheel bearing cartridge, and one on top of the differential housing.
ABS+TCS has the same two in the front, and one on each brake backing plate on the rear axle housing.
The front sensors can't be removed from the housing, the rear/differential one can be removed. The rear sensor sometimes has a buildup of magnetic material which you just wipe off. The sensors are sealed, so electonics cleaner, brake cleaner, etc will work fine, plus blowing the dust out with compressed air.
Suggestion - add a "signature" with basic info about yuor car, like year, model, engine, tranny, and any major mods. Makes it easier for people to help you.

Re: Where are the ABS sensors located?
Injuneer, I cleaned all of the sensors I could find and reset the PCM and checked my fluid and my bulbs, still getting ABS Inop and red BRAKE light on my cluster.
where does the path lead to next?

Re: Where are the ABS sensors located?
The "BRAKE" light comes on for two reasons.... 1) the e-brake handle is up, or the switch thinks it is. 2) there is unequal pressure in the front and rear braking circuits when braking. With #2, it becomes a case of which light is causing the other light. If the ABS motors are screwed up, you may have unequal pressure in the front and rear circuits. OR, unequal pressure in the front and rear circuits may be telling the ABS system not to operate (although I've never personally seen that happen).
Easiest way to handle it is to have it scanned with a scanner that can read the EBCM module, since there are many things other than the wheel sensors that can cause the ABS system not to operate. That will tell you why the "ABS INOP" light is on.
Resetting the PCM will not do anything, since the ABS is not controlled by the PCM. Its controlled by its own computer, and only scan tools like the Tech 2 or the high end Snap-On, etc can read the EBCM.

I guess i will open up the console and see if anything is pinched relating to the parking brake. then find a place with a scanner
I will keep you posted if you have time to help
Re: Where are the ABS sensors located?
would autozone or some other parts store have a scanner that can read the EBCM? My car has the same thing, only the abs inop light doesn't come right away, after driving a little bit it does. When the light is off and braking the brakes feel like they lock up, release, lock up.....but once the light comes on everything works great.
