Understeer

My 93 seems hard to steer and understeers in the corners. The local front end allignment shop assures me that the Front end is set to specs.Any suggestions?

Slow down in the corners. That will make it easier to turn.

I think factory specs in most cars today have inherent understeer... not sure about older cars...

Depending on the kind of tires you have you could try playing around with the front tire pressure, but you would have to know the type of tires you have and their condition to see if either decreasing or increasing the pressure will lessen the understeer. Do you accelerate as you're turning?

Thanks,

What exactly do you mean by "hard" to steer? ....mechanically hard to turn the wheel? .....hard to maintain the line in the corner without constant corrections?

Check the sway bar hardware and bushings, particularly the rear sway bar.

understeeron my 93 Z

The tires are Michelin Z rated and in good condition. The front has been rebuilt w/new struts and GM springs - poly bushings, new tie rod ends. Although i replaced the rear stablizer ends and installed an adj. panhard bar the steering is not up to my desire. The tire pressure is 32 front, 30 rear. Would a larger rear stablizer bar help?

under steer

I did not mentione but the steering has never been easy to turn the wheel @ low speeds compared to my Caddy or VW Passat and seems to increaseing difficulty difficulty fighting the wheel- more energy needed to turn in the corners.

Post your alignment specs; IE caster , camber, toe settings. I've found 3.5-4 degrees caster to be acceptable. 5 degrees led to 'hard' steering, IMO. Other then that, there is a preload adjustment on the rack that may need to be looked at. Ball joints, tierods, greased up?

Thanks doug, I'll check thoes specks.
Have 16" wheels- all joints greased and all parts to factory specks, the "preload" I will check.
