Sway Bar Questions

I am pretty sure the Firehawk, SS and WS6 all came with better front sway bars. Did they call come with the same front sway bars? Did they come with better rear sway bars? If I were to change out the front sway bar, I am guessing I will need to change the rear as well. If I changed out only 1, which should I do first? Would I need anything else other than the sway bar to make the change? How much difference would I see from a formula to a ws6 sway bar? I am also thinking about SFC's later, I am just trying to figure out what would be the best plan for all this.
Thanks
Steven

Talk with Sam Strano at stranoparts.com. He's a F-Body suspension expert. I'm running his hollow 35mm front bar and a 21mm rear bar.

What is YOUR purpose in upgrading the swaybars?

Re: Sway Bar Questions

Upgrading sway bars greatly improves corner carving. One of the best mods for handling besides upgrading springs/shocks.

Re: Sway Bar Questions

Actually, my bars are 35 front, 22 rear and both are hollow.

Anyway, getting to Plague's questions.....

All those cars had 32mm bars in front. Yours has a 30mm bar. Larger is better on the front, and it's becoming common knowledge that while 32 is good, 35 is better for the front end in most every case (not ALL of them, but 99% of them). If you were to do one bar only, it most certainly should be the front bar. Doing the rear alone is asking for trouble. We drive and react to the stiffer end of the car, and that should be the front. These cars have nervous back ends from time to time already, we don't want to make that worse by making the rear stiffer and changing nothing in the front.

I suspect you are trying to make the car feel a lot more stable than it does now. Larger bars will help, and again you want to increase the front first and more than the rear. But I'll also add that shocks are most likely where you need to start. They are mainly responsible for the disconnect feeling, the bobbing, floating and general feeling you are aiming the car instead of driving the car.

SFC's..... they should wait until after the dampers and bars. I bet you find you don't *need* them like you think you do now. Might want to add them, and that's cool, but the chassis itself is not the issue now, it's the suspension tuning.

Re: Sway Bar Questions

I actually have springs and shocks for the front and rear, the optional bilstein shocks and eibach springs. I saw a good price for the front sway bar and wanted to know if it would be worth it and if there were extra parts that I would need to buy (bushing etc). I also assume I would need an alignment. What do you guys think?
Thanks, great info so far

Re: Sway Bar Questions

Yes, you need bushing sized appropriately for the larger bar.
No alignment is needed.
