Stupid Alignment

yesterday I took my 1995 z28 into a tires plus to get an alignment I made sure to tell them that it pulled to the right when letting go of steering wheel when straight. I get it back and it is worse. I take it back today and I make sure they look for worn parts to figure out what is wrong and to correct the problem they allign it again and tell me it is within spec. They try rotating the rear tires/wheels to the front and then assure me the tech test drove it and said it is better it was better than the first time they messed with it but not better than before I brought it in. They said the only thing left to do is buy a new tire?? What should I do? What could be wrong? They assured me no parts were worn. It hasnt been wrecked and it doesnt wander when braking. Please Help.

Re: Stupid Alignment

jack up the car and check for worn out parts yourself. Could just be a ****y shop wanting to suck extra money out of you. jack up the front of the car enought for the front wheels to hang free. While its up in the air grab each tire at the 3 and 9 o'clock position and shake it from side to side. It should be tight with so slop or slack. Thats checking inner and outter tierod ends. Next grab the tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock position and do the same procedure. Should be nice and tight no play or move ment. Thats checking up ball joint and wheel bearings. Next grab a pry bar and place it under the tire and push the whole wheel up and see if the lowber ball join moves at all. If all that cheaks out swap the two front tires from side to side. Left side to the right and right side to the left and go drive it. And see how it does. It could make the probelm go away completely or fix it slightly or it could make it horribly worse. If it does make it wores you more than likely need new tires. And oh get a print out of the aligment specs. What chevy wants the camber, caster, and toe to be at and what they are on your car. I don't take peoples word for it I want to see it with my own two eyes.

Re: Stupid Alignment

Crasher88 is right. Check for worn parts yourself using his method. I've been down that road, and discovered a tire which pulled, probably due to misaligned belts. I got a statement from the alignment shop and went to the place that sold me the tire and got a new tire. Best of luck!

Re: Stupid Alignment

I checked the wheels myself as above and its fine I checked the air pressure in tires and the right was 37.5 the left 32.0 ?????.........I took my car back today for the third time so far. I told them it still pulled. They told me they didnt know what to do and to take it somewhere else! And have the other shop fix it and then Tires plus would refund my money! So I have to take the time to have another shop align it and pay for it then hope they fix it and if they cant? Tires Plus wants to know what is up so they can give me my refund but if the other shop cant fix it I have paid to have my alignment done twice and payed out 100+ bucks for nothing also the four trips made to get it done.

Re: Stupid Alignment

tire pressure can affect pull but not like you are describing. Did you swap the front two wheel side to side? If not do that and see what happens. Like I said it will do one of three things. It will fix the pull and make the car drive straight, make the car pull the other way, or make it pull harder to the side its alreayd pulling. If it doesn't fix it and make your car drive straight then you have tire pull and will need to buy new tires. Its not very common but it does happen from time to time. Its just a defect in the maufacturing of the tire.

Re: Stupid Alignment

I to have had the same experience except my car pulled to the left. The first trip to the shop they told me the rear end was out of alignment and that they had set the front toe. I took the car back a week later becasue it was still pulling and they pulled my paper work and said that the caster & camber was off but not adjustable. Well, I informed them it was and they adjusted it. Still had the same problem. I then switched the front wheels and the car started pulling the other way, it was a bad tire. I took it back to the tire dealer and got the tire replaced and got another bad one. The second shop has been very helpful and they also checked my alignment and set it correctly. Also, found that the rear end was fine. This is the second car I have owned that I've gotten bad tires. I've worked on another one that also had similar problems because of a bad tire. I think this is more common thatn people think but most people assume it's something else and most tire shops don't want to admit that new tires can be bad.

Re: Stupid Alignment

My tires are directional so I cant just switch the wheels w/ tires and see if it helps even if it isnt good for tire? My car was doing this before the new tires but it could still be tires since it was aligned. the shop told me they didnt know what to do. I am sick of dealing with this so I called tires plus consumer affairs hopefully they will just cut me a check cuz it has been retarded dealing with the store.

Re: Stupid Alignment

did you ever get a print out of the aliment specs. If you do post them I'll tell you if your car will pull with those numbers. And about the tire swaping from side to side. I sugest doing even if it cost you money to take it to a shop and have them physicly dismount the tires and reinstall them. I bet its your tires but we still have to eliminate possiblites one by one until we know for sure.
