Strange Alignment Issue

Strange problem. The front end alignment of my 96 Z28 is going completely out of whack to the point it needs done every 3-4 months. It’s literally wiping the front tires off my car. The outside tread is gone and the tires are smooth in that area. Today, I took it again. I stressed to the guy how important it is to check for worn chassis and steering parts. He did the alignment and insists my front end parts are all fine. Now the strange part…he indicated the rear end is really out of alignment. This took me aback. How can a car with a solid rear axle be out of alignment? He said the front end trying to pull this out of whack rear end straight could be causing my issues but he doesn’t know for sure. Has anyone else had this issue? What parts would allow for the rear end to be out of alignment?

Re: Strange Alignment Issue

Could be incorrectly adjusted LCA's if they are adjustable - lengths not equal. Or bent LCA's or badly worn LCA bushings. Could also be the chassis not being correctly centered over the rear axle - bent or incorrectly adjusted panhard rod, bent mounting bracket. Or rear subframes damaged in an accident.

The alignment shop should be able to check the thrust angle.

I haven't been able to get it to a shop yet due to money issues, but I haven't driven it either. The LCAs and the panhard bar are not adjustable. Could the poly bushings be bad in them?

Re: Strange Alignment Issue

Bad bushings would allow the LCA's to move forward on accel, and throw the thrust angle off.
