Steering Loose?

I've just started driving my car again after a head and cam swap. I took the steering linkage off to install the Mac Mid's. Now while driving the steering feels loose. There is about 3/4 of an inch of play. Could I have put the steering shaft on wrong?

have someone bounce the steering wheel back and forth while u look and see where the slack is coming from in the linkage or shaft. check to make sure u got the bolt on the universal joint to steering box fitting in right and tight.
