spring spacers

has any one ever made (or does a company make) spacers to install under or over the spring perches to reduce the amount of lowering that a lowering spring gives?

this is mainly for the rear to help with my fat 315s if i ever lower the car

something like a 1/4" spacer to slide under the spring to make a 1" drop spring a .75" spring.

i would think as long as there is still a "lip" on the inside to keep the spring from sliding off the perch...it would be safe.

anyone?

Re: spring spacers

You could probaly just add another spring isolator or two. This idea resembles a budget lift kit like used on jeeps and such, but they are usually in the 1"+ range.

Re: spring spacers

yeah i thought of that, but i wanted to make sure it wasn't going to add to the "spring" of the spring.

my dad owns a machine shop...maybe i'll do some measuring and have him fabricate something.

would be nice to have it as stackable spacers, to adjust how low the spings go.

i'd like a little bit of a stance drop, and stiffer spring...but with true duals and 315 rear tires...i'm pretty limited on my choices.

i'm currently looking at maybe the SLP springs/bilstein shock combo...for something around a .75" drop

or the BMR 1" springs and maybe playing with a spacer.

Re: spring spacers

BMR makes some but they're for the front IIRC.

Re: spring spacers

If you wanted to just raise it a bit you could slide a piece of a hose over the spring. I know that a lot of people lower the rear by taking out the rubber isolator and replacing it with a piece of hose so I figure it would work to help add some thickness/height in your case. How much of a raise are you talking about?

Re: spring spacers

no more than 1/2"...probably 1/4" would be fine.

i am worried i'll have clearance issues with the fender lip with the 315 tires. and i don't want to mess with rolling the lip. not to mention right now i only have about 3.5" of ground clearance with my true duals...so dropping another 1.25" or so would suck.

if i could get a true drop of only 3/4" from a set of springs id be very happy. but most are 1"+ which tend to come out even lower than what they advertise.

Re: spring spacers

I have about 3" or maybe a little less of ground clearance to my headers with NO ONE in the car, and here in Michigan (crappy roads) I actually, to my surprise, haven't had any issues with scraping. Mind you I do use my head and if I see a large curb I have to go over I go at an angle and such. Anyway, I would think a heater hose might be a good solution if you are only looking for a slight raise. For $1 it couldn't hurt to try.
