Similar OEM Rotors and Pad combo recs? (pic heavy)
Hi,
Any recommendations? I don't really need cross-drilled/slotted. I'm just looking for something similar to the OEM rotors, but if a cross-drilled/slotted combination kit is available that has good performance I'm down with that too.
It's been sitting awhile and neglected. At 126K miles, I don't think turning them and new pads is a good idea. Here's some photos:
Most of the rotors look like this.
Yuck
Calipers look ok, could use some dressing up/repainting.
What ya'll think of this outer tie rod end? lol
Pads in bad shape.
Rear sway bar bushings/links have seen better days lol
Is there supposed to be a stop on the bottom of the rear spring, or just the top rubber donut?
Random top view.
Top rubber rear spring stop that I'll be replacing when I drop the rear-end.

Ooh - is that a 1LE? Do tell!
When I picked my car up it had drilled and slotted rotors - the front ones had cracks originating from the drilled holes and that's not uncommon. I replaced them with stock style non-drilled non-slotted versions from NAPA and just went with their 'coated' versions. They've held up well so far with no signs of surface rust developing. My rears are also drilled and slotted - I check them before every event and they will also get replaced with stock style versions when needed.

Yes it is. I've been very slowly restoring it. Have had it since 1998. I've been bugging Injuneer here and there for help haha, he's got an insane wealth of knowledge/resources on these vehicles.
That's the kinda feedback I'm looking for. I've read about the cracking, but wasn't sure if that was a thing of the past. Anything OEM is similar should do well. It's just a sentimental toy at this point.

Here is a picture of the cracking on my rotors;
Nice that you're restoring your 1LE - it looks from the pictures that it's a red one? If so it's one of 27 red 1LE's in 1994.

Looks like the car has lived in areas with salt on the road. Still lots of good solid steel there though! The springs just sit on the axle, no bushing. The upper rubber pieces are well made and are probably ok and may just need to be cleaned. Honestly the sway bar fittings look pretty good too, probably disassemble them and give them a cleaning. That is all I did on both my cars, clean and lubricate the fittings and bolts so they stop corroding. Looks like everything has been neglected and could be set right with some elbow grease.
I have had good luck with the stock rotors I get from NAPA, they are not expensive and work just fine. I am running Akibono pads on the front of my street car and they are very good and very clean. I have Hawk HPS pads on my track car and I like them very well but they are more dusty than the Akibono. I have Hawk HPS on the rear of both cars, they work well and they don't dust too bad because the rears don't work too hard anyway.

Good luck bringing the 1LE back into service.
Excellent feedback!
All what your seeing is surface rust. Car has never been in salt, being in TX most of its life. You're right though, underbody needs a good wash, maybe wire wheel/elbow grease when I've got it on jack stands.
Do you guys have a part number for those coated rotors for the stock wheel setup? I love my salad shooters lol.

Honestly I’d turn those rotors if you can find someone who does anymore and put on new pads. With all the garbage Chinese rotors out there what your taking off is better metal. Those will clean up.

You can see how deep the gouge is from use. I COULD clean them up/have them turned and slap on new pads, but if I can find some quality rotors it really isn't that big a deal. When doing a cost analysis it seems to be a good choice with the vehicle having 126K on it.
