shock help
shock help
I'm looking for shocks for my ride that will handle at least 450hp. I'd like double adjustable for the rear and single adj. for the front, staying with stock springs. I want to be able to adjust the rear to be soft on compression to allow the weight to be transferred over the rear wheel and slow on rebound, just in case the front tire comes up. I only need single adj. in the front. I just want something stiffer than stock, as my ride bottoms out on the heavy front end too often. I checked the net, but didn't see any packages to fit my need. I don't know if QA1s or Koni can even be used with stock springs. Can they? I've been directed to Strano, but its the weekend, they're closed and I'm impatient. I'd like something in the $600-$700 range if possible. If you're a vendor please, speak up.
P.S. does anyone sell Bilstein revalves to fit your particular needs, kind of like custom valved?

Re: shock help
When you talk about compression, slow rebound, weight tranfer, etc., it sounds like you are primarilly interested in drag racing. If that's the case, the HAL/QA1 single adjustable shocks are pretty good. But if you are interested in street handling as well, good cornering traction, etc, the HAL/QA1's are not so great. The Koni DA's would be preferable.
You can use the HAL/QA1's with the stock springs, but you need to either cut your stock seats (I have an online sketch) or get a pair of new lower seats from BMR. The HAL/QA1's seats are made for the HAL drag springs, and they are a smaller diameter than the stock springs.
I think you will find that for drag racing, double adjustables work great in the front, allowing the front to come up fast, then holding it there for max weight transfer. Afco make a good DA for the front. The single adjustable HAL will work well in the back. My experience is that you don't want the back end to squat at all on a high HP application. You're better off if the back end lifts slightly in launch. I've been involved with setting up an 8.5-second 30th SS, and it was pulling 1.30 60-fts with the Afco's (Afco springs and shocks from Madman Racing) on the front and the HAL's (with my stock Formula springs) on the back.
HAL/QA1 now has double adjustables, but I don't know if they have them in the 4th Gen F-Body configruation yet.
