SFC and now everything is coming apart!

I recently got BMR weld-in SFC installed in my 94 vert and it was great for a week. Now it sounds like the whole rear suspension is going to pieces! It seems like the driver side of the rear swaybar is squeaking like crazy, and the passenger side SFC is hitting the frame of the car! (When you go over bumps, you can hear and feel something going "clunk, CLUNK"!) I'm gonna check again if everything is bolted back on correctly, but it's kinda freaking me out. Anyone one have any of these problems?

yah...

ya didn't tighten the LCA down enough. when you put the SFC over the LCA bracket it takes alot more torque on the bolts to get them to hold the bushings.

i made that mistake when i first installed my LCAs and then later on when i had SFC welded on.

it's not the SFC causing the problem, it's installer error.

double check all the mounts and bolts

Never heard of a problem with installed SFC's before. If installed correctly there should NEVER be a problem.

Should I take it back to the shop I went to, or do you think I can tighten it enough by hand? Also, what about that swaybar squeaking? Just a coincidence? Thanks again for your help!

Okay, I just grabbed a couple wrenches, along with some Wheaties, and it's fixed! The bolts were just a tad loose, but man what a difference! Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, did you see much of a difference in the stiffness of the car with the sub-frames installed? I ask because I have now been told by two shops in my area that specilize in F-bodies and Vettes that SFC's on a vert offer no benefit, as they come from the factory with SFC's molded into the floorpan to compensate for the lack of a roof. I'm still not convinced and may pick up a set of the BMR's but would like to get opinions from other vert owners first.

Verts are in desperate need of SFC's.

They are right that the verts come from GM with extra bracing and a reinforced frame. But that by no means makes up for the missing roof.

They definately stiffened up the car, getting rid of a couple rattles. However, I can't fully test them yet, since my tires are bald and the differential is messed up. As of now, the SFC's weren't worth ALL the money I paid, but they were a decent improvement, and we'll see the true results when I get those two problems taken care of.

Re: SFC and now everything is coming apart!

I want to dig up this old thread to warn any other vert owners that I think my bmr subframes did absolutely nothing to help on my vert.I put kenny brown double diamonds on my 99 and my old 97 t top cars and they helped tons but the bmr are crap in my opinion. Not sure its possible but if it is will be chopping those things off and installign kenny brown double diamonds on it.

When I got my SFC installed they made the car handle better and though I know SFC are not for hp performance....I did feel that after I got the SFC installed the car really grabbed and seemed to pushed harder then before almost as if I got more hp due to less drivetrain loss. And a week later my transmission took a dump, I had no 3-4 gear. Maybe it was just a coincedence that my tranny went out after the sfc install, but sfc are a worth installing on the camaro.
