It sags.......

OK so now that I've got your attention let me pick your brains.
I have a '96 Z28 coupe with an A/T and the right rear is sagging BAD. The front of the car has about a 3.5" gap between the fender well and the tire but the right rear is more like 2" and the left rear is about 2.5". Ive replaced the shocks, springs, and lower control arm. No Luck. Ive inspected all the mounts for cracks and stuff and found nada. Any suggestions, I hate spending money to fix something that doesn't need fixing.

something has to be broken or bent to have that big of a difference with new shocks and springs.

look for bent not cracks next time.

Body twisting, bent panhard rod, bent shock mount behind the rear seat, or even no upper isolator, are all possibles. Like Xride said, something has to be missing, bent or twisted for that much difference. How long has the car had this gap? Had a carfax done? Need a bit more info.

It's been sagging like this for about two weeks now. I've had the car for about 3 years now, so whatever is wrong i did it. Would the panhard rod cause it to sag like that? I didn't bother checking it or the bushings. the shock and coil spring mounts looked OK but i need to double check.

It could if it was bent, or the bushing rotted and fell out.

I have the same problem...my RR sags a noticable amount. Of course my car was hit on the RR quarter panel before I bought it. I am stumped as to what it could be. I am going to try new springs & shocks first and go from there. I sat under my car and measured everything I could thing of...still found nothing. Good Luck if you find anything let me in on it.

Although I've never seen such a large variation caused by this, check your sway bars. Loose, damaged, or incorrectly adjusted sway bars can preload one side of the suspension and cause one side to be higher than the other. I've seen this cause a 1.5 inch difference at the front from a rear sway bar mount that was bent.

Have you loaded the suspension and observed for even/correct rebound? This might help you isolate the actual area to check or identify sticking components.

I never thought of that....sounds reasonable. Could a rear swaybar mount cause the rear to sag on one side? becasue my front one is unhooked.
