removing rusted on disc / rotor

I'm trying to get the disc off my gf's grand am and the sucker is bonded on with rust very tight. I got the first side off after some (not so) gentle taps with the mallet. After that didn't work on side two it was on to the sledge but even with some very hard shots the disc wont budge.

I sprayed everything with WD40 and let it sit while I'm at work today. Don't know what to do if that doesn't free it up.

Anyone got any tips?

if you hit it hard enough it will come off but you will probably break the rotor before it comes off. just incase you were trying to save them

Nope new one is waiting to be put on. For all intensive purposes I've probably destroyed the one on there already.

Would hitting with a torch do any good? Can I use the grinder? I'm always looking for an excuse to use the grinder!

I had the same problem with the rear disks on my Z28.

The torch solved the problem. I bought a MAP Torch (Yellow bottle 2000 deg hotter than propane) at walmarts. I heated the area on the disk between each of the wheel studs for about 30 sec and then tapped it with a mallet and the disk fell off. Two hours of pounding did nothing. Use car so you don't melt the bearing grease seals ect.

You should also check the studs for a little retainer clip, some of the factory disks have this.

A torch and a sledge helps alot at breaking the rust. Sometimes the stock rotors have tapped holes for popping screws in to break the rotor free that makes the job alot easier also.
