Removing lower control arms (front)
Removing lower control arms (front)
Like stated in title, what is needed to remove only the lower front control arms. Did tie rod ends last weekend, and upper ball joints. Now I need to do lower ball joints and bushings. From what I concluded last weekend, would'nt I be able to use a floor jack to support the Lower control arm while letting the tension down from the strut, then remove the two control arm bolts, remove control arm and reinstall, or is that way off?
Re: Removing lower control arms (front)
i just got done this last night...boy let me tell u, make sure u have PLENTY of time.!!! took me like 5hrs each side with me and my dad. i did all new poly bushings up front, and you have to burn all the old rubber out to get the sleeves. lower ball joints are a pain press in correctly, we had two differnt presses and it still took some time to get them in right.
But yea its only the two bolts on the bushings. make sure u mark where the bolt was lined up before you take them out so your steering wont be way off.
Take steering knuckle off, take the two bolts off the strut from the control arm and that should be it. you can let the (strut or shock..) just hang from where its bolted up to. but if you are replacing the upper a-arm bushings mine as well take them all out at once.
once again i am warning you, this isnt an easy job, make sure you have plenty of time to do this and also have someone else help you to make things ALOT easier.
Good luck!

Just curious because I did the upper a-arm bushings but couldn't get the "cans" all the way back in.
