Rattle over bumps

I seem to have inherited a rattle when going over bumps which I cannot track down.

The noise appears to be on the exterior chassis because I can hear it echo off other vehicles, curbs etc. It appears to be coming from the tranny tunnel and/or passenger side of the vehicle, somewhere between the fenderwell and the front passenger seat.

The noise sounds like a cable which flapping, or maybe some sort of loose shield. Ideas?

Re: Rattle over bumps

Our cars are known to make a lot of noise especialyl once they get a few years old. Mine creacks like crazy over bumps but its pretty much ok otherwise. Some squeakscan be fixed by getting sub frame connectors or other fram stiffening things.

No, this is a complete new rattle, like something is loose or vibrating.

Doesn't seem like that's the correct location. But I was planning on replacing it anyway today, so we'll see

Rattles are hard to diagnose. You may need to get the car on a lift and beat on everything with a rubber mallet to try and duplicate it. A "buzzing rattle" is usually a heat shield, noise from the tunnel could be a loose/broken tranny mount, or even loose torque arm bolts. Good luck with it, I'm still trying to track down a rattle somewhere in my rear suspension.
