Re: Quoted for ball joints!

I bought my upper ball joints for $51 a piece from advance auto parts. Assuming $102 in parts (plus markup 15%) to $117.3. The old ones have to be ground out, which takes time, and you have to drop the spindle to do it... I could do it on the car, but I probably wouldnt.

$117 in parts, $44 in alignment and then lets say 2.5 hours of labor at $60/hr comes to $311 + 7% sales tax comes to $332. So I can see where the numbers are coming from.

Is that much labor reasonable to charge? I have no idea as it goes by a book. If you cant do it yourself... then you cant do it yourself. Anyone know how much it should officially take?

You're talking about the upper A-arm. I don't think it would be any cheaper, and at that point you'd be far enough into it anyway to just change out the balljoint. Aftermarket A-arms (tubular) are not cheaper by any means. You'll pay $300 bones just for the parts not including labor. I think Geoff hit it on the head with the price, it's probably right on the money. I've done this job a couple times and it's a bit involved.
