i had one of these motor crossmembers laying around and i figured i would finally install it, but i have a few questions first. I don't like the way its just that single bar in the front, so i was going to weld in some gussets. what do you guys think about that?

that and guys that have a cross member, where do you winch your car up your trailer from? i use the crossmember now, but there is no way i would pull it up with this thing. are the control arms ok?

I've seen the PA K-member crack under hard use. Appeared to be a case of poor welding.

hmmm, thats what i would like to avoid. the car is used for drag racing only, and is winched on and off the trailer.i was thinking about welding gussets in the corners, i would even weld another tube in there if it would make a difference. injuneer, where do you winch your car up from? i just remember seeing a picutre of your car on your trailer

I drive my car up on the trailer.

The PA I saw, failed when the 97 SS came down hard from a wheelstand. PA supplied a new K-member, and it held up better than the original. But the Spohn K-member looks like its built a lot better, and a lot stronger.

wow. now i know why the i was able to buy this thing for 150. i converted a utility trailer to a car trailer and my axles are not far back enough so when i drove up the ramps i feel like i am shooting for the sky. the winch makes me less scared

I saw a PA K-Member fail recently ... at an unexpected place.

There are inverted "L" shaped brackets that the power steering rack mounts to welded to the main cross member. The welds broke, the rack moved out of position and pulled the steering shaft apart.

Not good. If you have the K-Member on the ground, gusset the PS rack mounts.

UMI makes about the best after-market K-Member out there.
