Go to autozone or similar store, bu a new ball joint, remove cotterpin and nut from package, install on car, return ball joint to autozone.

How could a nut that is torqued down and locked with a cotter pin "come off"? Did the ball joint then separate because of the missing nut?

It should make no difference that the ball joint is from a Trans Am. Sounds like the threads are messed up.

i have no idea how the damn thing seperated.. i imagine that the cotter pin was not there.. but nothing was broke not the ball joint or anything.. and i had such a hard time putting the castle nut on cuz it was the wrong one.. i guess tahts what happens when you get stuff for free how difficult is it to change out ball joints? it seems pretty tough..
