no e brake
no e brake
ok, some time ago my emergency brake quit working. you could pull it all the way up with no resistance. all of the cables under the car are connected. pulled the console this morning and tha cable is connected to the handle mechanism. now understand this is not a sometimes it will sometimes it won't situation. it hasn't in months. all searches have been tried. any suggestions? can the entire mechanism go bad? thanks.
Re: no e brake
check your cables that are attached to the secondary brake shoe. forgot is this a disc rear end. if so have someone pull the handle and watch the caliper to see if they work, if not it may be in your handle assy.
Re: no e brake
Its the adjuster screw in the rear calipers. The mechanisms wear over time.
Use an Allen wrench to adjust the small set screws. CW will provide more grabbing power and CCW will relieve the grabbing power of the e-brake. Take the rear wheels off, pop the big recoil springs off. If you can move the cam levers more than 1/8" they are out of adjustment. Adjust the set screws till the e-brake cam lever at the caliper has about .050" free play.
More than likely there is nothing wrong with your cables or brake lever self adjuster.

Re: no e brake
update. i feel kind of stupid, but oh well. the handle was busted where you grab it. i thought it was more or less a cover to put your hand on. a friend of mine at the dealer told me to squeeze it hard and then activate the brake. well, long/short i replaced the handle and now it works fine. one down several to go.
