Newbie....'96 Z28 vert....cowl shake questions

Hello all, I recently bought a '96 Z28 convertible. Car is 100% stock 67,000 miles. I noticed that it has alot of cowl shake. Would any of you convertible guys or gals have any suggestions for improvement? Maybe subframes? if so what brand? how about a strut tower brace? Thanks for the replies in advance.

Re: Newbie....'96 Z28 vert....cowl shake questions

I have a 94 Z28 convertible... From what I've read, the first things to address are new shocks and subframe connectors... I haven't done either yet, but will be soon... Our selection in subframe connectors is fairly limited... BMR makes some that fit our Verts for `$170, Kenny Brown makes Double Diamond SFC's that will fit for ~$300 and SLP had some bolt on SFC's that would fit for ~$350... I'm trying to decide between the BMR and the KB... Both are weld in sfc's but the BMR's won't make you lose any ground clearence and the KB's will provide better stiffenss due to the way they tie the floor pans into the frame... As for shocks... there are many reccomendations, but you should find the ones that will best dampen the specific springs that you have on your car...

I hope that helps a little...
Steve

Re: Newbie....'96 Z28 vert....cowl shake questions

With BMR Weld Ins and a BMR Strut Brace, sitting on DeCarbon shocks and stock springs I have no shake, no roll, and no squeaks and rattles in the car. Mods were installed at 135,000 miles. The subframes and strut brace made a HUGE difference.

Take a look at global west too. They have tubular ones specific for convertibles. I had a 95 convert a long time ago and I was looking at those before I sold it.

Thought bring this back.My car has terrible cowl shake and I found the bmr subframes did absolutely nothing to help.I recently put in a hotchkis shock tower brace and it helped a bit.I plan on taking off the bmr if possible and buy the double diamonds that had on my 97 ta and also have on my current 99 trans am.I noticed instant help from the kenny browns. The guy that noticed big improvements from the bmr must live in place with great roads.
