Ok, I did a brake upgrade today. I installed the WS6Store Rotorworks all 4 drilled and slotted. It's been 17k miles and 2 years since I did brakes. THey recently started squeaking and I figured they were due. I ordered the SAME non ceramic Hawk pads as I installed 2 years ago.

Oh, yeah. The brakes are like new now. They work 100% better! VERY little effort to get the car to slow down!.. ... I LOVE IT! My brakes were really soft before. My pads and rotors were glazed pretty bad.

I went to install my new pads and.... THey didn't wear AT ALL!! WTF is going on? 17k miles on 1/16th of pad wear?? I have also done about a dozen or so 150 pulls w/ hard braking in the past 2 years. The new pads also looked different. The shape and the material. THey fit fine, tho. I checked their 'footing' on the rotor and it's fine.. They sit a little high, but seem to have a better footprint on the rotor.

I don't think you want those pads. THe're about as smooth as glass. I'm gonna save em anyway. Almost no wear on a set of $80 pads.

I am just wondering why they didn't wear.. And on that note, why my brakes sucked do bad... I think they were just glazed, that's why the pedal was soft. It's not now. as soon as you feel that little tick in the pedal and pressure starts building the car slows easily.

when you put them on, you may not have "seasoned" them. which would result in glazing and poor stoping performance. When you put new pads on its important not to make any hard stops for a few miles and to sand down your rotor to end any chance of glazing on new pads. As for those old pads you can just get some 80 grit sand paper and take the glaze off and reuse them.

you could have just grinded down a 64th or so off the old pads and reused. could also have takes some of the surface off the old rotors. they'd be like new.

If they are glazed, I have them resurfaced (if I can). Or try my best had at it w/ 100 grit sandpaper.

hawks recommend a special break in procedure. For some reason I did NOT bother to look at the darn box! ... ... I really hope I didn't ruin AN $85 set of FT pads!!

1. 6-10 stops from approximatly 30-35mph applying moderate brake pressure.
2. make an additional 2-3 hard stops from approximatly 40-45mph.
3. DON'T DRAG THE BRAKES!
4. Allow 15 min for the brakes to cool
5. After step 4 your new brake pads are ready for use.

i didnt read the instructions either bayer, but as luck would have it (for once) my route was basically the break in procedure.

tonight is trash night and my old pads are a little thicker than pictured and not so glazed. if anyone wants them, let me know tonight so i can pull them out of the can.

If you're just gonna throw them away, I'll take them. I can try to block sand them and throw them on and see what happens. I'm running some cheapo pads that came on my LS1 setup.
