I've searched the threads and I can't seem to find anything, but here's my prob. My brakes have started to act really weird. It doesn't always happen, but when I press on the brakes the rear brakes seem to squeel very loud and don't seem to catch. It's almost like they seem to bounce like they catch for a second and then let go again repeatedly until it stops. A very jumpy stop and the brake pedal seems to let go until you stop or slam your foot down on it. So I replaced the rear pads and rotors and I have plenty of brake fluid. It's only the rear brakes that do this. Anyone have an idea of whats going on?

It isn't a matter of having plenty of fluid, you need to have FRESH fluid.

Brake fluid is hydrophilic. It attracts moisture and then it'll start to boil when hot and you lose pedal pressure.

Changing fluid will help with your pedal feel.

Lets start with the simple stuff for the grabbing/pulsing problem. Your rotors are most likely warped. Get them turned.

 

I just replaced the rotors and pads with new ones and it didn't help. If it was a problem with the fluid wouldn't it do it all the time?

 

I missed the rotor part. So that rules out the most basic. Do you have ABS?

The fluid will help with pedal feel. It wont solve the problem, but it is part brake maintenance.

 

Yes I do have ABS and TCS but I'm pretty sure that the TCS has nothing to do with this. What can I troubleshoot with my ABS to try and narrow down the problem?

 

I've had some odd problems from the junk getting in between the sensor and reluctor ring.

 

sticky caliper is my guess, and possibly air in the lines

 

I'm guessing ABS related. As a troubleshooting step pull the ABS fuse and unplug the solinoids on top of the ABS valvebody. This will effectively shut down the ABS system. If it still happens after this it is related to the basic brake system and probably not the ABS.

This is the type of suggestion I was looking for, thanks. The ABS valvebody is to the left of the fuse box on the drivers side right? If I unplug the solinoids it will be ok to drive just to try it out right?

 

Alright so I pulled the fuse and unpluged the solinoids on top of the abs valve body and the problem has seemed to go away. So now what?

Clean your wheelspeed sensors on the rear ABS is kicking in prematurely...

 

What do I clean them with? Wipe them off? Aren't they magnetic?

 

I had a major brake problem that ended up being fixed by cleaning my rear wheel sensors..
I had my ABOS INOP light on, Low traction Light On and My ASR light on every time i first used my brakes...cleaned my rear wheel sensors and all is fine now
