I have a few problems with the rear brakes on my 96 camaro. It makes a loud squeaky clicking sound from the drivers rear. I took the rear wheels off to take a look and found the following.
The inside pad is heavily tapered and the parking brake adjustment screw is missing. What exactly does this screw do and would it cause the pad to taper? Also do I have to get the screw from GM or is it a common size I could find anywhere.
The other problem I found was on the passenger side. The parking brake lever on the caliper is pulled all the way but it is off the pushrod that pushes on the pad and is jammed against the side of it. When I get it unjammed how do I get the cable to release since it is pulled all the way to the stop.
One other question. In all the diagrams of the rear brakes they show an h shaped shim. I don't have these. Are they necessary?

The rotor is rubbing an area on the inside of the caliper mounting bracket. This can be ground down a bit to provide additional clearance. Take a close look at the outermost edge of the rotor and you will see the wear.

This happens all the time on LT1 rear brakes.

The screw is used to adjust the brake in general, it is very tricky to do right but is critical. Sounds like you need a full rebuild and adjustment. There is a good procedure on shoeboxes site for adjusting the brakes.

Does anyone know what size the adjustment screw is? Gm doesn't sell them anymore and the parts guy didn't know what size it is.
