LS1 brake mod proportioning valve mod
LS1 brake mod proportioning valve mod
Before I tell you what I did, let me lay out my current setup.
LS1 front brakes with C5 rotors
Stock rear LT1 brakes
Powerslot rotors front and back
Hawk HPS pads front and back
I've been trying to mess with the balance of my brakes for some time now. The mods to my brakes made the front brakes more effective so to keep it balanced the rear brakes need more pressure. I messed around with cutting and shiming the spring in the metering block with no luck.
Well today I decided to see what would happen if I removed the stock proportioning valve all together. Huge difference. Brakes are way better. I will probably end up installing an adjustable valve on the rear brakes because I'm getting just a bit too much rear brake.
This is a straight forward mod that too me 20 minutes but you will need a spare front metering valve cap as you cannot reuse the rear one once the valve is removed. The two caps are simular except the rear cap has a small rubber cover in the center of it. YOU CANNOT REUSE THIS PIECE ONCE THE VALVE IS REMOVED! Remove the cap, spring, adn the valve. Install the new cap and bleed the rear brakes. It's that simple.
Even if you have a stock brake set up. You could still benifit from this with the instalation of an adjustable proportioning valve. Stock brake balance is always very conservative toward the front brakes.
