Kenny brown subframe connectors & true duals
Kenny brown subframe connectors & true duals
Can it be done?

First of all ill clarify what i plan to do. I plan to have two exhaust setups since i dont think i will be happy with one. I want to keep the single three inch for emissions and daily driving, but ill have a custom y-pipe that will flange at the collectors and right before the cutout so its entirely out of the way. For 'race use only'
i want to have a set of 3" duals with an x-pipe and bullets that dump somewhere before the axle.
My question is, can they fit? i yet to come across any pictures of a car with KBDDs and true duals. my primary concern is that connector in the middle - drive shaft safety or whatever it is. First, is that thing necessary
its never been under any stress when i unbolt it. if it is, i guess i could weld up a custom one to run the pipes over... or are there any aftermarket pieces?
thanks in advance

Re: Kenny brown subframe connectors & true duals
This will give you an idea of how much room you DON,T have to run true duals. I installed a Granatelli Gload brace where that wavy metal was, those are puple horny header mufflers with turndowns that I had cut down to fit and had O2 bungs welded in.
Re: Kenny brown subframe connectors & true duals
thanks for the pic, i would run the duals down the side like that if i could, but with the subframes I HAVE to run them down the middle, is it possible at all?
Re: Kenny brown subframe connectors & true duals
Anythings possible, depends on what you can live with.
You could delete the the crossbrace (wavy metal) and run both tubes down the tunnel I suppose but it will be tight.

Re: Kenny brown subframe connectors & true duals
Its not a driveshaft safety loop. Removing it will not hurt anything as far as straight line acceleration. Alot of people running true duals have removed them and I have not heard of any problems.
An actual driveshaft safety loop encircles the driveshaft so that it does not fall to the ground at speed and pole vault your car into the air or come up through the floorboard and create havoc if the Ujoints or the shaft itself fails.
You should be fine leaving it out during the time your running the dual setup.

ok, I know LT1 tech may not have been the best place for an exhaust question, but i dont understand why its in chasis
i guess i couldve worded the title better
