How good can Fbodies be made to handle?

People love EVOs and everything because they are lighter and more nimble. How realistic is it to make an F body handle well, aka be rather competitive in Auto-X or the like?

Basically my questions are:
1) How light can you make an F-body?
2) Are there quality suspension parts out there that will give you a great setup?

It also depends on the course size and layout. Some courses are small and tight, which is an advantage to smaller less hp cars, while some courses are spread open wide and give the high hp cars the advantage.

I'm not really talking about HP I was really wondering if F bodies can be made light (somewhere around 3000-3100 lbs) and handle well.

What would have to be done to attain such a weight? Would it be possible just by taking out all the superflous stuff like the back seats, carpet, maybe the passenger seat, the door inserts, maybe the electric windows, the A/C, or would I need to actually buy and install lighter drivetrain/other stuff?

How well can you drive your f-body????

You can put an average less experienced driver in the best set up car and they'll still get beat by a great driver in a stock car.

In other words, DO THE DRIVER MOD FIRST.

Getting to the magic 3000lbs is easy, even with a full 6 point roll cage with NASCAR style door bars.

But, there is a price to pay.

No side windows, side impact bars or door skin. All non essential bracketry is removed. Lightweight suspension parts are used, like aluminum LCAs and PHB. front and rear cover supports are gone, all the seats and suppot brackets are gone. A lightweight Kirkey or Ultra-Shield seat is used for the driver. Dash is completely gutted to nothing more than a shell. The 100lbs of wiring harness is removed and a 15lb Painless Harness is used instead. No headlights or blinkers, no smog, no exhaust, all the body seam filler and sound deadening material is painstakingly removed.

We built a CMC legal 95 Z28 for a customer. The driver weighed 155lbs. We had to bolt in 180lbs of ballast to make 3200 minimum weight as it came off the track after a race.

So dry, the car weighed under 2900lbs.

Can a F-Car be made to handle? Damn right it can. there are lots of folks doing it and doing it well.
