I pulled the whole assembly apart and got the top nut off but I can't get the top off or even see what's holding it on.

I hope you put a spring compressor on it first. It's probably just rust holding it together.

Lol yes I used a spring compressor, this isn't my first time changing shocks just first time on an fbody. So I guess I didn't miss anything, I'll just spray it with pb blaster and try again tomorrow.

Once the nut is off, it should come apart.

When you tighten the shock nut back on, are you supposed to prevent the shaft from spinning?

Are you reusing the shocks. If not, you might want to just cut the shock shaft. The upper shock/spring mount is probably going to need to be replaced too.

No I'm installing some konis. I assume I will be cutting them off if I ever find that hacksaw but those damn mounts are $55 a piece at autozone.

Umm, yeah or you won't be able to tighten the nut.

I've heard that the autozone mounts aren't exactly accurate in where the holes are drilled

Well I finished the job a little while ago. Once I used the hacksaw on the shaft I was able to hammer out the tip with a punch so I could reuse the mount. On the second shock I didn't even bother removing the bolt although it was so rusted I doubt I could have.
