i am doing my first brake job tommorow and just wanted to know the tools i will need because with my tires off i wont be able to go to the store and get anything else. i know this is a dumb question but it would really save me a lot of time. i will say that i have the standard tools required, but what im most worried about is what tool i will need to remove the caliper. ive heard hexs, then ive heard allens. but does anyone know what size it will most likely be? also will i need to buy a c clamp to mess with the piston or can i just use a metal pole. thanks in advance for any good answers to a dumb question lol.

I believe the required bit is a Torx. I suggest a socket with the Torx insert.

A C-clamp usually works.

Obtain a service manual like Haynes or the GM one, or get someone to copy it for you. Reinstallling fasteners with the correct torque is VERY important.

Enlist help from someone who has done this before.

Remember this is a safety item, unlike an exhaust, CAI, etc.

thanks now i have a new problem. (go figure) the bolt holding the caliper on is very stripped and after a few crushed fingers and bloody knuckles i have decided its not going to come off without a fight. i tried using a rubber mallet to hammer my tool into it but theres just no room behind that wheel to fit a mallet, let alone swing it with enough force to do what i need. any tips? is there a special tool that can get this off (i know theres a tool for stripped drain plugs) or should i try a smaller/ larger size? its late and i've licked my wounds and given up for the day but i will be up at dawn trying to get this done.


ps-why do the simplest things turn out to be such a pain in the ***?

You're not getting answers because you posted on the wrong forum. "Bumping" isn't going to help.

You might also want to add some info about the car so people can give you accurate info. I see from your other posts its a 1st Gen. Need to know that to help you. Why not add a "signature" with basic info about the car. And, unfortunately.... not a lot people here who know a lot about the 1st Gen cars.
