Re: Hal Qa1

do a search, i've been researching the same thing a little bit. some guys say it's a great package.

but it seems like the guys that actually USE the suspension....road racing and autoX...say it is a pretty crappy setup.

right now i'm looking at doing something like BMR 1" drop springs (any would work) and a set of Koni single adjustables. and if you have the $$ double adjustables would be better.

Re: Hal Qa1

The QA1 setup is adjustable for ride height, therefore you can lower the front of the car as far as you want. I ran the setup for 2 years and replaced it. The 12 way system does allow for weight transfer at launch, but if you get on the brakes hard the front will dive and rub the tires on the fender liners. Poor road handling suspension at any setting.

Re: Hal Qa1

QA1 shocks are great for drag racing only. They are hydraulic shocks and not gas charged. This creates problems for the shocks during extended use. As the oil thins the dampening ability goes away. If you are looking for handling you will want to stick with the Koni's if you are looking for adjustability.

Re: Hal Qa1

I tried to make my car perform straight line and on curves with the QA1/HAL's, and quickly decided that they are "good" for straight line traction applications, and less than "average" for all around handling.

Whether its "a good kit for the price" depends on how you plan to use the car, which you didn't mention.

Re: Hal Qa1

yeah I want a good balance of straight line and handling. 99 times out of 100 a race is going to be straight line, but its still fun to be able to handle. And plus, i don't want a horribly uncomfortable ride. so thanks, I'll keep searchin

Re: Hal Qa1

I would go with the Konis or Bilsteins, the QA1s do not provide a very comfortable ride.

Re: Hal Qa1

springs?? Im now leaning toward Eibach Drag Springs. Will koni adjustables I can set them for drag, and be good, and then set the shocks up for sreet or even handling, and be okay for that too. correct? i guess what I'm asking is will drag springs make me handle poorly even if the adjustable shocks are set to road coarse racing? plus, will the drag springs lower the car?

Re: Hal Qa1

I have the Qa1's as well (drag springs up front, eibach 3/4 in the back), and changing from the Bilsteins, it was a huge difference. Straight line was awesome, however I can no longer hold corners at high speeds like I used to. The best combo I have found is to lower them as low as you feel comfortable with. I still can take corners much better than a stock suspension car, however my set up is more effective for the strip.

It is going to come down to what you do with the car more. Straight line? Or cornering? I don't think there is a good set up out there for both.

Re: Hal Qa1

yeah ain't life a b**ch! o well i'll do the best I can. I just want a better stance, better launch, and better handling. but say I get Koni adjustables, will having eibach drag launch springs make my cornering that poor? Can setting the adjustables for cornering overcome the fact that the springs are set up for drag? otherwise i'll just get a set of eibach lowering springs.

Re: Hal Qa1

By lowering the car with the adjustables, yes you will improve your handling, and as a result, take away from your launch. The lower the car is to the ground, the less it can squat, and hook up at a launch, and the less it also can sway left to right, which increases your cornering ability. Its not that your car will handle "bad", it just won't handle as well as it could with the change. Again, my set up handles much better than a stock suspension car on cornering, but it doesn't handle near as well as before I put the drag springs up front with the Qa1's. But then again, I do much more straight line stuff than cornering, so my combo works well for me. It all depends on what you want.

Also, you can change your adjustables to different hights for the strip and for the street, but I believe every time you lower or raise them, you will need to have an alignment done. So, unless you work in, or have a good friend in the suspension shop, I wouldn't plan on changing them back and forth too much.
