Gotta at least change my brake pads.Little help

My pads are almost worn down to the rotors and I need to change them.
Which pads should I buy and should I get anything else brake related while I'm at it.The car has about 85,000 miles on it,Is there any maintenance assosiated with the braking system with my miles.A write up would be nice as well. Thanks

I've been doing a little research and people tend to like hawk brake pads.
How do you know if you need to replace your rotors or not?

Would I have to buy ls1 type brake pads as well or brake lines?

Can I get good front rotors(Power slot) and auto zone rear rotors.I guess as long as there within spec.Would there be any draw back such as rear brakes losing a little more life than the front ones cause the front ones are better quality,or any difference in braking.I'm gonna buy hawk brake pads and all 4 rotors.Theres a set of front rotors on ebay for 157,and I was thinking about just buying some inexpensive ones in the back.

It all depends on what you want. To me, stock pads perform well enough to keep me alive so therefore they can't be that bad. Autozone pads and rotors will do just fine. But, if you feel you must spend more money to stop, go for it.
You can't just change the pads without at least turning the rotors if you wish to keep things stock. However, front rotors cost about the same as a shop will charge to turn them, same for rear. Search a little more and you will find that some people have experienced premature warping of slotted rotors. This to me would really be a waste of money.
As far as a write up is concerned http://www.kyfbodies.org/tech/baer/baer.html
This should give you an idea as far as doing some kind of conversion and also give some basics for a brake job. A Haynes manual will help out also.

Please post on the correct forum. This is "LT1 Engine Tech". Moving to "Suspension, Chassis and Brakes".

Hawk pads are pretty good.

If your rotors are not worn to bad you normally just get them turned.
I would also take the time out to grease/clean the Brake Bushings since you haven't serviced them in so long.

If you want a cool package Check out Thunder Racings Power stop brake kit. It's an excellent kit. You get the pads, slotted rotors, and steel brake lines. This was the first modification on my car. You don't really need the jumbo brakes till you've got a better reason to stop even faster. The C5 Brake kit isn't really worth the hassle unless you just want to have C5 brake braging rights. Together the price of the Mounts, calipers, and rotors...and acessories... total what you would pay for an equivilent Baer Racing Brake Kit of the same degree. Just somehting to think about.
