Question factory installed brakes with 50,000 miles??

I bought my car with about 45,000 miles on it, and never really inspected the brakes that closely, but lateley it seems they've been warped because when I brake the car shakes. So I bought slotted rotors and new pads for the front and when I changed them out, the old rotors still had the clip placed there from the factory to keep the rotor from falling off. Also the thing was rusted on so bad I had to really wack it hard with a hammer!! This doesn't make sense though, they weren't worn very much at all, there was enough meat on them to be turned still!! am I right that these are installed from the factory with almost 50,000 miles on the car?! I've NEVER heard of this before!

Thumbs up

I don't think it is that unusual to get such mileage from the original brakes. F-body rotors are another issue, though...

My 00 has close to 55K and neither the front nor the rear brakes have been opened yet.

Fronts are just now getting to their last 10% and the rotors are warped, so it's about time to open them soon. Rears still have plenty of meat left, so I don't have to touch them in another 10K+ miles.

My 99 Firebird had just about 50K when I did the fronts on it.

I've got almost 100k on my clock and I've only had to do brakes once (although I bought the car with 32K on it). I had mine done at around 82,000 miles if memory serves correct. Mine were entirely shot though, pads and rotors. My rotors were so badly warped they looked like they had been beaten with a sledge hammer
