Torque Arm Mount????

Alright, when I replaced my trans mount last week, i noticed that my torque arm mount was broke, and now when I get on it, it seems like I get some good wheel hop going on. So I got two questions. One, how hard is it to replace the torque arm mount, and two, is that what my wheel hop is from, the broken mount?

not to tuff to replace the T/A mount, might be a good time to upgrade to a poly piece, and yes that is likely the cause of the added wheel hop

Whats involved in doing that? Anything that would take more than an hour on my back with the car on jack stands?

You need to unbolt the steel mount housing from the tranny tailshaft housing, then pull the TA to the side and remove the housing and bushing from the end of the TA. It can be hard to force the TA to the side, and sometimes it will hit the tunnel before you are able to pull the long bolt all the way out of the tranny. Once the mount is off the TA, the "clamshell" opens up, with 1/2 of the bushing on each side (is it possibly this "split" that makes you think it is broken?). The bushing is riveted to the clamshell pieces and the rivets need to be ground off to remove the bushing. Then replace the bushing with an ES poly bushing. This is in one piece, and just slides over the TA with some lithium grease. Then clost the clamp around it and push the bolt back into the tranny tailshaft housing. It can be hard to get the clamshell closed because the poly bushing is so hard.

Where you can get into trouble is when the TA will not push far enough to the side to allow the bolt to come out of the tranny. In that case, you either have to unbolt one of the 2 big bolts that hold the TA on the differential housing (be sure to support the diff housing under the bottom first) so the arm will swing to the side, ore you need to leave the clamshell in the tranny and grind the rivets off with a Dremel while laying on your back under the car.
