Question Competition Engineering Rear Drag Shock settings.

I just put my CE Rear drag shocks on today. I currently have them set at 50/50 since it seems thats what most on here run. Here's my deal. My car is my daily driver, I mess around on the street way more then at the track since the nearest track is 2 hours away. So since I don't make it to the track but a couple times a year and the street is way slicker then the track, should I set these shocks in the middle at 60/40 or even go down to 70/30? What do you guys think? At 50/50 right now they feel stiffer then my old shocks.

50/50 is the softest setting, with 40/60 being firm and 30/70 being extra firm. Since the street is not as sticky a suface as the race track, you will want them soft to aid the most possible with weight transfer. On a sticky surface F or XF is the ideal setting if you can hook since you want to plant the rear tires into the ground.

If they are really stiff do you think air could have gotten inside the shock while you were installing them?

The box says opposite. Says 30/70 for most weight transfer on a slippery track, and 50/50 for a perfect track to prevent to much load and prevent wheel hop. I have no Idea if air could have gotten in or not. I installed them like any other shock. How would air get in?

Air can get in if you stroke the shock in a position other than upright (like with the shock sideways) if that hapenned it says in the instructions to stroke the shock 10-12 times in upright position to get any air out.

Also the settings on the box are opposite to what they state in the online instructions. When I installed mine, I stroked them on all 3 settings and found 50/50 was softest and 70/30 was really hard to compress, others have found the same thing.

the box even differs from the website as mtl said...i've stroked the shocks in all three settings and 30/70 is by far the firmest...i have them set on that right now and it is too stiff for street tires...just blows them loose....im gonna try to back down to the 40/60 to see how they feel there...i have had others tell me the 50/50 gives too much squat but have never run the setting to verify..i believe they made the too soft statement running drag radials as well as an fyi

Ok, if thats the case I guess I'll leave them at 50/50. I am on drag radials...

if your on drag radials go stiffer and put them on 30/70....you want to go softer on a street tire because it can't stick with all the power put straight to the tire...im gonna try 40/60 on the street tires...if i were you i'd put them at 30/70 with the dr's...give you the most anti-squat then back off if your having trouble sticking them

I'm having trouble sticking them now though... There just Nitto's but will be M/T soon.

well you might be getting too much squat
think of the equal and opposite reaction...if the rear goes down the axle comes up which is giving you less traction...if the rear goes up then the axle is forced down and plants the tires...you want anti-squat if you have stickier tires....you want your front end to come up for the weight transfer, but you don't want the rear to squat

Well thats kind of how it feels now compared with the old shocks now that i think about it. It feels like the rearend just kind of stays there while the front lifts. I also did the heaterhose mod at the same time, so I'm not sure if that makes it feel any different. Anyways, I have front QA1's on order so after I put those on I guess I'll see how the whole combo feels and go from there.
