I'm trying to put together a c5 brake setup for my car and I'm looking for the best deal on some conversion brackets. I found these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-02...QQcmdZViewItem
Does anyone recognize these as a quality part? I know UMI makes the brackets but they are a bit more expensive. I see these are cut from 304 stainless steel..whats the difference between these and the UMI and "Bob Bishop" ones I see in the group purchase section? Also if anyone has a COMPLETE parts list for what I will need or a writeup I would greatly appreciate it.

 

The 13" C5 rotors/calipers don't fit all the different 17" rims; verify it will work with your rims before proceeding.

 

I have gm SS 17x9 wheels..

Will I have clearance issues?

 

Those will fit just fine; my friend did the C5 upgrade with the same wheels. Unfortunately my Enkei 17 X 9.5 wouldn't clear the C5 setup; I went with the Baer Track Kit (C4 setup) setup that just barely clears.

 

my boyd's didnt fit either. i swapped to zo6 wheels. they have plenty of clearance. anything that actually came on a vette will fit.

also, the brackets that are on ebay arent high quality parts. some could be, but they werent anywhere near the quality of bob's brackets. he actually spec'd out each unit for clearances and tolerances. i doubt anyone else does that.

 

Bob's brackets are tops but those are 1/2" thick stainless so they should be plenty strong. The only thing I'd be worried about would be clearance and the brackets fitting like they say they will.

 

Bob's brackets (now TrackBrackets) are made from Aluminum. The difference is they are machined from one solid chunk of billet. These Ebay brackets look to be two sheets stacked on top of each other which shoots their bending stiffness all to hell with two chunks of aluminum tubing sitting on top for each bracket. I'd go Trackbrackets, UMI or LG before I'd waste my time with these.

compare the pictures of the trackbrackets to those ebay brackets and you will see why the ebay ones look like trouble

I think I've narrowed it down between the UMI or those at Kore3. Are either of these cut from a single chunk of metal? I know this is not a part to be cheap on but I refuse to spend 300+ on the Trackbrackets. My car will never see abuse but I also dont want something thats going to break if I decide to stop quickly. Have either of these companies load tested their brackets?

 

Some people are just cheap and refuse to spend money for good parts.

 

The Kore3 Brackets are definetly a quality part. Mine are one piece. His brackets are stress tested and have been problem free. Because you ^^^ overpaid, that makes me cheap??

 

By looking at the Kore3 brackets they are 3 pieces welded together, one flat plate and two round metal tabs welded on. The UMI and trackbrackets are both machined from one solid chunk of aluminum. I have never heard of failure on either of them. I have heard with the Baer brackets, which look the same as the Kore3 brackets is they flex and allow uneven pad wear, this would be my concern with them.

 

I paid 210$ shipped for my brand new aluminum Bishop brackets, before he stopped making them himself. I will pay more for quality parts, because they're my brakes, and I'm not a cheap bastard when it comes to such important components.

 

I've got 13" C4 HD brakes under my 16" IROC rims...just got to get the right set up (or know someone else that has figured it out).
